TDR issues, changing registry editor not working

Hello,

We are experiencing issues with low TDR (Timeout Detection and Recovery) since the 2.9 update.

We updated the drivers for an RTX 4090 graphics card and attempted the following manual fixes, as suggested here:
How to solve Timeout Detection Recovery problem when rendering.

Before the update, everything was working fine. Since the update, we also tried the automatic TDR fix proposed by D5, which restarts the computer and changes the setup.

However, in both cases, when we try to load large files, the system crashes after approximately 20 seconds without any error message.

We are faced with two scenarios:

  1. If we keep the original setup, the file fails due to low TDR.
  2. If we apply the manual fix, the file crashes after 20 seconds, and we can’t pinpoint the cause.

Do you have any suggestions for what might be causing this issue?

Thank you,

Pascale

Hi there. I apologize for the inconvenience this issue has caused.

Hello,

We have already attempted updating the graphics card driver.

While some large files load successfully, others continue to encounter TDR-related issues. Implementing the TDR fix prevents the typical TDR error from appearing, but the software still closes unexpectedly. We also adjusted the registry value to 120 as a potential solution, yet the software continues to close without displaying an error.

Please let us know if there are any further recommendations for addressing this persistent issue.

Thank you.

Hi there, thank you for sharing this information, but I may need you to also send the information regarding your System and its Memory Speed, please refer to the images below:

I await your reply; thank you.

Hi @placroix

Sorry for the issue and want to know more details.

  • Were any of these project files functioning correctly in version 2.8 before they started reporting errors in version 2.9?

  • Did you upgrade the driver version recently? What’s your last driver version? Could the issue arise after updating the driver version?

Hi, please find attached the system information and memory speed:

Hi, thank you for sending this information. You mentioned “While some large files load successfully, others continue encountering TDR-related issues.”

  • Have you updated to the 2.9.1 hotfix? (Still in gray-scale but users are gradually able to download it)
  • Were there any common denominators of the files that encountered this issue?
  • if you have changed the TDR Registry and the crash is evident, does it occur after you update the assets, or did it happen abruptly?
  • Can you please check your GPU’s statistics through the task manager or GPU-Z while opening the files experiencing this crash and see if there are spikes or abnormal numbers?
  • Please try to roll back your graphic drivers to GeForce Game Ready Driver-561.09 - WHQL

We would also appreciate it if you confirm the questions Leah asked, so we can further assess this issue:

If you have noticed an abnormal rise of temperature it might be worth checking out this topic:

  • A user was also able to point out the sudden crash they experienced and was able to solve it through “lowering the GPUPowerTarget to 80% while keeping the GPU ventilation at maximum to eliminate the issue of the temperature rise, and I discovered with this setting that I no longer had a problem rendering 4K videos in the empty scene.” Feedback on video crashes and black screen - Get Help - D5 RENDER FORUM

Thank you.

Where can the hotfix link for download be found? I am also experiencing endless issues with D5! Endless.

Hi there. The 2.9.1 hotfix is still in gray-scale release, which means it is gradually being uploaded to random users; the official release will follow. I appreciate your understanding.

Is there a solution with this yet? My file, working perfectly fine yesterday, started to give me the TDR error again today! When is this going to be sorted out? It is so bad I am considering going back to my ex-girlfriend called Twinmotion. Guys this is not on. Read my previous posts on this issue - Everything possible that you directed me to do I did and it keeps on coming up. We have deadlines and it reflects bad on our names if we cannot produce in time. Loving D5 but this TDR issue is seriously bad. It has been 3months now of back and forth and purchasing new GPU’s. I need a screenshare with tech support so that we can run through it and show you.

Hi @divan

Sorry for the issue.
Was the file created by 2.8?

We are currently monitored for an issue where some old archives open in 2.9 with excessive resource consumption, and we are working on fixing it in subsequent releases. For now, please check your scene files:
-Is there a lot of ‘procedurally-generated vine assets’?
-Is the drop feature for vegetation paths used?
If so, please optimize your archive accordingly.

If the file fails to open now, please delete the ‘f2’ folder under your WorkSpace path and reopen the archive. Once opened, please do not update the assets untill you optimize your scene file to prevent it from crashing again due to bursting video memory.
