2.9 Video Memory issue, then D5 closes

**D5 Render Version: 2.9
**Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX4080
**Driver Version: 566.03
**Issue Description: After updating from 2.8 to 2.9, the software fails to display the model and is extremely slow. The model worked perfectly in previous version, but new version 2.9 seems very “heavy”. It is also not my most complex render file. Version 2.8 has handled much more complex files in the past.

Upon opening, an error pops up after a few seconds saying,
Out of video memory trying to allocate a rendering resource. Make sure your video card has the minimum required memory, try lowering the resolution and/or closing other applications that are running. Exiting…” The file is unworkable.

Hi @ian1, please does the issue occur in other projects or only in a particular project?
Kindly share a screenshot of the system information as well. You may need to update your graphic driver and adjust your display settings.

Hi @Anthony_D5 , see below system info.
after further testing, it seems to be limited to projects that have medium to high complexity. The new version does open up older, smaller files. But this doesn’t help me.

Hi @ian1, we have received the log file. In the meantime, I’ll recommend optimizing your scene as this issue occurs only on medium to high complexity projects. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Hi @Anthony_D5 . Thanks for the confirmation. However, it doesn’t allow me to edit the scene to try and optimise it before the software bombs out.
I have rolled back to version 2.8 until such time a fix is rolled out. I can see I’m not the only one with a major issue caused by the update to 2.9. Hoping for a fix soon!

Thanks.

Hi @ian1, please I’ll like to collect some more information to enable us to troubleshoot the issue.

  1. Screenshot of your system information. kindly refer to the attached images.
  2. A copy of your scene file, please send the entire folder. We’ll like to test the scene on our end here to see if there is any issue with the scene itself. You send via WeTransfer and share a link with us at support@d5techs.com
  3. I’ll also like to know the exact time this lag started. This will help us while examining your log files.

Many thanks

Hi Anthony,

File/folder is too big to send via WeTransfer on my non-paid account. Could I try OneDrive?

Yes please. You can share the OneDrive file link. Please remember to send the screenshots of the system information.

I cannot give you the version that the problem started as I have rolled back to version 2.8.1.0482.

The exact time the lag started was directly after updating from 2.8 to 2.9 this morning approx. 1 hour before my 1st forum post. Everything was fine until I updated.

Hello @ian1

Thank you for sending us your scene file. I tested with a single pc both in the 2.8 and 2.9 versions.
When the assets have been downloaded and the resource usage tends to be stable, their VRAM values are the same.
May I confirm the value of Dedicated GPU Memory when you are running this certain file in current version 2.8? Is it 7.4/16 GB as shown in the screenshot you sent above?

My results:

Hi @Leah_Li,

No, when opened in 2.8, the GPU is using 15.4/16 GB. I took the older screenshot when running a blank/new file.

See updated screenshot below:

Hi @Anthony_D5 @Leah_Li

Have you managed to pinpoint the issue?
Is there any indications when/if a hotfix/update to 2.9 will be released?

Hi @ian1

We have reported it to the team. If there’s any updates, we’ll let you know.

Hi @ian1

Hope you are doing well.

We have an update regarding the issue. The increased resource usage in version 2.9 is confirmed to be caused by the ‘procedurally-generated vine assets’.

As a temporary solution, our team helped to remove the vine assets from this project file, so that you should be able to download it and try again to see if you can now open it with 2.9.1 and continue work. The team will be working on this further.

I sent you the file link via DM, please have a check. Thank you!

Thanks @Leah_Li

Looking forward to a fix to the issue… That particular project is now complete, but I will try the modified file when I get a gap. Appreciate the investigatory work.

Cheers!

Hello @ian1

Thank you for your reply. Our team is wanting to collect the Rvt file for this project, and we’ll keep it strictly confidential and use it only for testing.

If it’s convenient, please send the Rvt model file to support@d5techs.com, and attach a link to this post in the email. Thank you sooo much.

Hi @Leah_Li , Please could you send me the adjusted file via wetransfer. You can send the link to my email. I need to make changes to the file, but have since updated. The file still does not work with the new version on my side.

Thank you.

Sure, will send rvt file

**D5 Render Version: 2.9.1.0509

**Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX4080
**Driver Version: 566.14
**Issue Description:

I have exactly the same problem. The strange thing is that I can open all the projects except the last one I am working on (it is a normal weight project)

When I load it, everything goes well up to 97% (which stops and begins to increase the RAM) until it reaches the 64GB limit and the error message appears (attached 2 screenshots)

What is the solution?
