Scatters are not visible

Hi,

I am having an issue with my scatters. After editing them, they disappear. I can still see them on objects and view their contents, but they are no longer visible. This has happened to all my scatters. When I receive the ‘update the scatter area’ notification, it fixes the problem, but I don’t get this notification often, and I haven’t been able to figure out how to manually update the area. I also use D5 Teams, so I have to use the D5 Launcher.

Can anyone guide me on how to fix this issue?

Hi @selindrella

I apologize for the inconvenience. What happens if you delete the scatter then do it again? It simply does not show?

  • What is your workflow from your 3d Modeling software to D5 Render? Are you perphaps using Rhino with work session?
  • The update scatter area only shows when there is a ned to, such as if the surface material was changed or modified.

This is the issue that I encountered, the scatters were still in the file and just needed to be reapplied which wasn’t really a problem, however it did seem to lose the ‘culls’ I’d put in previously.

Hi @3DG

We had tested a user’s file, but it was mainly caused by his workflow; he was using a work session in Rhino, which may have triggered the issue.

We’re not sure if this is the same situation as @selindrella, but we would love to collect your files if you permit us to.

Hi,

The issue mostly appears when I edit the scatter surface in D5 for example, when I erase or add more area to the surface. Also when I create a forest and make multiple edits to the scatter the trees in the edited scatter area disappear while the trees in the remaining scatter areas stay visible.
The solution I found is to click “Edit Scatter Surface” again and reselect the surface I want to apply the scatter to.

Other D5 Teams users on my team also have similar issues with scatter. Could this be because Im using D5 Teams on three different computers at the same time each synchronized with a separate Rhino project?

Unfortunately I cannot share the working file but I would really appreciate any help or suggestions you can provide.

Now that you mention it, the two projects I experienced this on had “culls” applied. I almost never apply culls/edits as I’m usually very careful with applying textures where I need them to be, so I’ve not encountered this issue on other projects.

I use Sketchup rather than Rhino, so I suspect the issue may lie within the cull feature in D5.

Hi @selindrella

“Could this be because Im using D5 Teams on three different computers at the same time each synchronized with a separate Rhino project?”

  • By this, the 3 devices all have different D5 account which is inside your Team right? I don’t think it should be the reason unless the files that were used are the same one that is being opened across 3 devices (perhaps the file was placed in a network path).

Hi @3DG

Alright, so based on your observation, the Cull Effect somehow triggered the issue? We’ll look into and try to replicate the issue.
