Rhino + D5 Mapping Problems with Textures

Hello,

I’ve been using D5 for a while now on different machines usually with Rhino 7 and now version 8.

In previous projects, my texture mapping which I set up directly in Rhino wasn’t a problem. Now however I am running into weird display errors.

Screenshot showing D5 (left) and Rhino 8 - with Texture Mapping options displayed

As seen in the side-by-side screenshot, there are the panels of the wardrobe with a wood texture, that is for some reason running in a different direction in the top left door panel.

In the rhino window (right) you can see the mapping option of a door panel. All of them have the exact same settings.

How can resolve these mapping issues? Triplanar is not an option, as it would make all instances of this texture run in the same direction. For some objects however it should run perpendicualar - as defined in the texture mapping options.

Hi @Moses,
D5’s UV’s follow the modelling software, you can paste the material in Rhino to see if the same happens. Each face in Rhino, has its own UV, so the textures are not naturally the same size, even for the same material. Can you try to adjust the uv of that upper left face in Rhino?BTW, are you using the texture axis function in Rhino?

If it’s convenient, can you send me the scene file (The entire compressed folder where the .drs file is located + the modelling file) to support@d5techs.com? better attach a link to this post. You can just leave the part with abnormal issues. I will check if I can help you.
Also, please send the file of Rhino 7 version, thanks a lot.

Hey @Leah_Li ,
thank you for the reply. I’ve sent the files you requested to your email.

Regarding your question:
I am not quite sure what you mean with texture axis function.
I am however using the texture mapping as indicated by the red box on your screenshot.

As you can see I am using the Box Mapping type and define the wood grain direction with the Rotation settings.
I DON’T use the UV or UVW mapping types and therefore am also not using the UVW > Rotation settings at the botom of the Texture Mapping properties.

Best regards.

Thanks for your email and this image. This error occurs because D5 plugin doesn’t support any texture mapping parameter in Rhino yet, so it is possible to have abnormal effect of plugin importing, and also abnormal effect of direct reading the file. However, we have raised the demand to our product department, and it will be probably supported in the subsequent versions. For now, you can try direct reading of file in D5 instead of plugin and see the results. Thank you for your understanding.

Good morning, do you have any news regarding Rhinoceros support for texture mapping?
I have 7 stone elements and D5 render sees them as a single object and by modifying the texture mapping on D5 render they all behave differently.
Do I have to create 7 elements with 7 different textures to be able to fix them?

Hello,

The latest plugin can support texture UV mapping, you can check and download here:
