Critical Issue: Large Project No Longer Opens After Updating to D5 3.1

Hello D5 Support Team,

I’m experiencing a critical issue with one specific project file, and I urgently need your help.

The project is over 9 GB, and it no longer opens. Before updating to D5 3.1, the file was working normally. It was a very heavy scene, but I could still open it, work on it, and render images without any issues.

Now, after updating to D5 3.1, the original file loads to 99%, then the entire application freezes, followed by my whole computer becoming unresponsive. The only way to recover is by forcing a restart.

I also tried using the Merge/Recovery feature. The merge process starts, but after a while it freezes my entire computer as well, forcing another restart before the project can be recovered.

Here is everything I’ve already tried:

  • Updated my NVIDIA GPU driver to the latest version.
  • Rolled back to an older NVIDIA driver after checking the File Log, as recommended.
  • Verified that the File Log now reports everything as normal.
  • Tested several other D5 projects, and they all open correctly.
  • Confirmed that this issue only happens with this specific large project.

Unfortunately, I can no longer downgrade to D5 3.0 because it is no longer available for download. If it were possible to temporarily return to D5 3.0, I believe I could at least recover the project, since it was still opening before the update.

This project is extremely important, and I need to deliver it to my client this week. At the moment I cannot even open the file to optimize it or remove assets, so I’m completely stuck.

Could you please advise if there is any way to recover this project or identify what is causing the issue? If necessary, I’m happy to provide the project file, log files, or any additional information that could help diagnose the problem.

Thank you very much for your support. I would greatly appreciate any assistance, as this issue is currently preventing me from delivering an active client project.

Best regards,

Hi @danielsodpasc

I apologize for the inconvenience. Can you please confirm the following:

  • Does this issue occur only in specific files or in all of your files?
  • If it’s a specific file, was it created in the previous version and was later opened in 3.1?

Please send us the ff:

  • Log Files

  • D5 File

You may generate a link containing these files, then you can send it to me privately.

After you have sent us your logs and d5 files, you may try to proceed with rolling back to 3.0 Download Historical Versions of D5 Render - Get Help - D5 RENDER FORUM
