What kind of file management is this?

I’ve never seen anything like this!
What kind of way is this to manage material files on the hard drive?
It’s incomprehensible and unmanageable for the user.
You can’t find anything, it’s a complete mess!
It’s impossible to find the texture used in a material to edit or check it.
What’s more, the right-click function on a texture “File Location” is always grayed out.

Am I the only one who finds this annoying ?

You can’t edit textures of materials used from D5 Asset Browser directly. Save material to Local and after that you will find it in your local folder. File location is for custom build textures.

Thank’s for this information.

I don’t understand why D5 Render materials are “locked.”
This is the first time I’ve encountered this approach.

In Cinema 4D built-in Asset Browser is the same. These predefined materials cannot be edited because they are stored in on-line database. You can edit them after moving to local storage.

That’s not true. Unless I’m mistaken, locally saved materials are in a non-editable .d5m format.
And if you save an object locally with its material, then the .jpg and .png files won’t open in any application.

I would like someone from D5 to explain to me why everything is locked.

I wanted to migrate from VRay/Vantage to D5 Render, but that hasn’t happened yet.

Most probably because these materials and models are parts of your D5 Pro subscription that is not free to use outside.

Exactly the same in Vray Assets, they also stored in max format only that cannot be opened in any other software.

I was only talking about the possibility of editing textures, not objects.

With 3DS Max and VRay, i have no difficulty editing the textures of materials from the Cosmos library in Photoshop.
And there is nothing stopping me from converting an object from the Cosmos library for export.
