Very Large "ROAMING" folder

Lately I realized that my SSD was almost completely full and I couldn’t explain why.

Checking I agreed that the folder
User / myname / AppData / Roaming / D5 Render
It even weighs 50gb.
Is there anything I can do to “clean” these files?
Or are they necessary for the program to work?
Being in the AppData folder I think they are files that could be removed but before doing any damage I ask if anyone has the same problem and if they know how to solve

Hi there,

  1. If the reason for the C Drive occupation is that there are too many local library resources, you can use the “move assets to a new location” function.
  2. If not, you could try to uninstall and then reinstall on the D Drive, or another non-C Drive.

Thanks so much for the tip.
I checked and my personal library weighs “only” 4.68 GB.
The greatest weight I find in the folder
“C: \ Users \ MyName \ AppData \ Roaming \ D5 Render \ d5_immerse \ content”
Even 43.6 GB.
Checking in the folder I noticed in particular 4 very heavy subfolders:

  • 7,06GB for “d” folder; which seems to me to contain textures and previews of all my D5 render works, even the very old ones.

  • 12,5GB for “paks \ f” folder; in which there are indeed many “.pak” files, they will probably be the contents of the software and therefore indispensable for operation.

  • 5GB for “ModelTextures” folder; here too I see textures of the various models imported into the software.

  • 16GB for “um” folder; more texture and render prewiew.

From what I understand it seems to me that only the “paks” folder is really essential for the software to work, the remaining files are residues of the various loaded projects that often unnecessarily burden the PC.
Is there a way to clean up?
Will I lose my local materials and models if I uninstall D5 render?
If I install it on a HDD the program will work worse than it does now, which is installed on an M2 nvme?
I apologize for the many questions, but I am curious in general and would also like to help as I can to improve the program

Hi Anitonio,

  1. If your network is fast for downloading assets in D5 built-in library, I suggest you to reinstall D5 Render in other non-C Drive. And you need to download again for those online assets in D5 library. As for your local models, please use “move assets to a new location” function to other path before uninstall.

  2. If it’s inconvenient for you to download those model again, files in "d folder/mdoelTexture folder " could be cleaned up.

Hope it helps!
Thank you for the feedback

I have a 1GB network so I have no connection problems.
I have already moved my Assets but the 3d models have been lost.
It only moved the textures but not the various 3d models that have been lost completely. I do not know why.
In either case I will reinstall the software on a different disk.
Thank you very much for your availability

Did you use the “move to a new location “ function in D5 Render to move all the models in your Local Category? And all of them are lost?

Hi Antonio,

May I have the logs of D5 Render from your computer?

How to get logs file - Please download and save this file in the installation directory of D5 Render, then double-click, will create a file named" D5log.7z", and send it to me.
My email is minjia.huang@d5techs.com
Thank you in advance

I have sent the email

this a good question…and very important to carry correctly the important files while purging the useless ones…here what I found so far but we need D5 tech to help a bit…lol
the repertories to keep are…
Model : where all the downloaded Objects from D5…they are kept in this repertory.
D5m : same but for materials…all the textures downloaded…
Decal Model: for decales downloaded
PBRS: where the AI generated textures go

NB: Paks seems a big folder but have no idea of what’s holding…

now the Folders you can clean …
d: this is a repertory containing a Thumbnail Image (trace) of all the opened projects, clean it up may reduce the space occupied by those files on the disc.
um: traces of all the assets downloaded from D5 online and used in previous scenes of different projects, “textures”…
ModelTextures: textures of all the external 3d models kept temporarily …

that’s it…hope D5 guys enlight more about other repertories…
at last, I would thank all the team for this outstanding amazing software…the perfect software to me after having wandering for 20 years trying different others…D5 won it all, not only and the way people respond to our requests needs etc is just on another level, never experienced that before…honestly ! you’re the best guys, and by the way improving textures panel control to make complex combinations like some other softs would be the big game changer next steps, and please we need real displacement instead of the parallax existing one…cheers!

Hi there,

The “pak files” contained in the f2 folder store information about the assets used in different project files. Deleting this folder will not cause any harm, but you will need to update the assets when you open these files again. We always recommend this to users who experience issues opening their D5 files due to large asset usage. Personally, I delete my pak files from time to time if they exceed 5 GB.

Additionally, we are very grateful for your praise and kind words, @blownspirit. We strive to improve our software with every update by listening to our users and incorporating your feedback with our ideas. Thank you for your support.
