The rendering of the clouds in 3.1 is worse than in 3.0!

**D5 Render Version:3.1.0.0746
**Graphics Card: RTX 5090
**Driver Version:610.74

Hello,

The rendering of the clouds is worse in 3.1 than in 3.0!
Flat, with no depth.
Even recalculating with AI inpainting doesn’t bring any
improvement.
It was different in version 3.0.

Now I always replace the sky afterward in an image editor.

3.0 was also faster—when editing, loading, and saving.
Or is it just me who feels that way?

Best regards,
Andreas

Hi @a.drexler

Thanks for your feedback. Do you have a rendered image of the output from 3.0.1 so we can compare the difference?

There have not been any significant changes or improvements in the 3.1 Clouds aside from Fog & Volumetric Cloud Blending Optimized

Fog & Volumetric Cloud Blending Optimized

In the legacy version (v3.0), fog was rendered directly between the clouds and the camera. As a result, once fog was enabled, volumetric clouds would easily be occluded — an issue most apparent in bird’s-eye views. In the new version, fog and volumetric clouds blend naturally for more realistic visuals.

  • Newly added Cloud & Fog Blending Mode under Preferences → Rendering.

    • Enabled: Disables the blending effect between fog and Volumetric Clouds. Fog will occlude volumetric clouds to maintain compatibility with the appearance of legacy scenes.

    • Disabled (default): Fog and Volumetric Clouds blend naturally, providing superior visual quality.
