Hello everyone,
Long time missing here,
Unfortunately, I had to let the D5 go because of these issues, which are not solved yet. So sad… Love the software
Dive into the issues, working with Sketchup / D5 2.8, the most recent one is the old one. Section plane in different views. I made a section to set a scene inside the building and I have another scene that is directly facing the section. So I have to turn off the section in the second view of course. So what is the right approach to it?! I do not see any! I put the section in layer and every time I change the scene I have to turn on/off the layer too which is not productive.
the other issue is the same but more general. The layers itself has to be set to the scene. like every scene can have its setup for layers too. Turning on/off layers every time changing the scene is not fair. especially when more than 5-6 layers sets are there and more than 5-6 scenes are set to be shot !!
And same problem with object visibility in Sketchup, Simple as hiding a plant that is exactly blocking the main camera and has to be hidden for the camera to see the view, but the user has to do it every time manually from Sketchup.
Think about having more than 10 scenes and you have to memorize which scene needs which layer on or off / which objects hide or visible / which sections are on or off and then click the render button… so hard to do…
I think this is a major major problem for making big and detailed scenes.
Looking forward to a solution.
Hi there, I apologise for the inconvenience that you have experienced in regard to the layer management and setting up scenes. I do have some suggestions as to better manage it, especially dealing with larger files, and hopefully, it would be helpful on your end.
-
You can try to create a naming tag in SketchUp that corresponds the layer to a specific scene.
-
Consider grouping or creating a component for objects that you wish to hide, and this could also help in object hierarchy, for instance.
-
As for the way how to use the section tool with two or more views that you wish to have, For now, this is typically the process (Video attached): Unique Download Link | WeTransfer
Nevertheless, we are thankful for your insights and suggestions regarding the proper management of layers and scenes in D5 and issues regarding the Section Plane tool (known issue), and hopefully will be able to improve it as soon as possible drastically. Thank you again.
Thank you, mate,
The point is tagging and other techniques like that are still not a solution, it is what every SketchUp user does for sure, otherwise how do turn off a 120 light source manually every time:sweat_smile:
Anyway, I think the D5 team should prioritize these couple of issues. I believe these are essential for such software.
By the way, I think in the video you sent me above, I saw that every scene had its own section active when clicking on it(exactly the solution to my problem). Am I right, or did I make a mistake there? If so, there might be a problem with my software.
The video that I provided shows that every scene has its corresponding cutting plane (section), so changing from Scene A to Scene B would show the side being cut. Perhaps you have enabled "Apply to All’ instead of “Save Separately” since saving different scenes with different settings would require you to choose this option.

Oh yeah, spot on, I was having a problem with exposure too, it did not change when I was changing the scenes… it was set to “apply to all”. It was my next topic
Thank you!
