Real Displacement

It is urgent that we have a real displacement. It is a shame what we went through with D5 render without a decent displacement. 3 YEARS without a response from the team.

Lumion has had this feature for a few years now and was a game changer then. This is one of the few things I believe D5 is really lacking in terms of its competitors.

The speed at which the d5 team implements ideas and requests is so slow that a real displacement will never get any kind of attention from them.

And right now with Lumion having real raytracing and probably pathtracing in the next updatesā€¦ Iā€™m very annoyed about the performance with D5 Render when you start adding vegetation to the scene, because everything is getting slow dropping the frames to 10 or 15ā€¦ and is almost a nightmare to work with.

Lumion has been around much longer than D5. The D5 team releases regular updates with lots of oustanding features. Be patient.
You can check the Ideas & Requests section. There you can see, whatĀ“s planned.
If you are on the run, change the software.

i vote also for real displacement as #1 - the most important feature yet missing.

for architecture, which i think might be the biggest user base, it is just essential

Also Voting for i vote also for real displacement as #1! Itā€™s a must.

Keeping pressure on support for real displacement

you know with implementation of terrain and D5ā€™s ability to create plane based on Displacement Map, shows D5 can make it work ā€¦ now. so ā€¦ why not making it work now?

@LiaHuang you know considering the current state of D5 render, I think the best way you can integrate real displacement is to D5, is to use it like Scatter and Terrain. for example, we would have dedicated button for it, then would choose the Material(s) we want to apply displacement, here inspector tab will open, and we can choose to ā€œuse Height Mapā€ or use ā€œdifferent Displacement Mapā€ and then have a function just like ā€œTerrain Displacementā€ and use a slider for amount of height. after that it could just work like scatter, we even can have Cull area or oven cull Map to exclude some areas and finally have an option to disable it in Realtime or ā€œupdateā€ it in case the base model changes.

this method is truly imaginable for anyone who works with D5 now, and can be the big feature for version 3.0

I voted for Real Displacement. #Make D5 Render Great Again!!

Hi, I agree with comments above and I think that should be a #1 feature to develope. Right now it is realy hard to create realistic stone or gravel materials, especially for closeups. Also It would be great to add UV randomizer for Displacement template as we have it now for Custom material template.

Iā€™ve worked with many software programs since 2003, starting with BIM software like Archicad. Over the years, Iā€™ve used tools like Corona Renderer, V-Ray, Enscape, and many others. But when I discovered D5 and saw its user interface, I was genuinely impressed. Its speed and quality were really appealing, and it felt like the perfect combination of features every architect needs for daily visualization tasks.

However, what deeply disappointed me was the fake displacement maps in D5. Proper displacement is something every architect relies on for realistic renderings, and when I considered switching to D5, I kept hearing from the community that D5ā€™s team listens to its users. Yet, this displacement issue has been around since 2021, and it hasnā€™t been resolved. I really hope this problem is fixed soon, so we can finally have proper, real displacement in D5. Such an update would be a game-changer for the software.

I tried d5 for a few a days mainly experimenting with various lighting setups. I liked it so I subscribed for my first pro month. Then I realized that there is no real displacement in it. I mean, sync works well, so adding a displace modifier with a map in 3ds max usually works but itā€™s not the solution for everything.

This is so disappointing and almost a deal breaker for me. No matter how good your PBR maps or lighting setup is, some materials look always fake. I see that this is a requested thing for so many years, yet itā€™s still under review and developers donā€™t even answer in this topic anymore.

They give all they focus to add some fancy BETA AI tools that advertise like crazy and are fun indeed, yet completely supplementary and not so important. From all the crucial, necessary improvements only Path Tracing and Corona material support are on the way. Others like real displacement, fur rendering, scatter imported models, realistic sea and ocean, weathered materials and others are for years under review.

I think this should be next obvious step, we already have almost everything we need to make rendering pop. Now itā€™s the time to substitute de parallax effect with REAL DISPLACEMENT.
Make it possible D5 team! We believe in you!

Exactly, this is obviously the next right step for D5 and it would bring the much needed hyper-realism for textures with displacement to the platform. It must happen soon, it would give the software such an edge!
