Path Tracing disabled on AMD cards

Hi! It’s already been a few weeks and Path Tracing is still disabled for me, ever since 2.11 update. Saw in a comment a while ago that some AMD cards were having some problems with this feature, but it seems a bit extreme to disable this for an entire group of people with these cards. I’m not really interested on switching to an Nvidia card right now, so would like to have some news on this matter.

Also, is there a link for me to join the official discord? I’m a premium member but I don’t see any direct way to join.

Thanks!

Hi @matiasbf96

Yes, you’re right and this detail is stated in our 2.11 Patch Notes: What’s new in D5 Render 2.11 - News - D5 RENDER FORUM

  • Based on our detailed and careful testing, we’ve determined that the potential performance and stability risks of using Path Tracing on AMD GPUs outweigh its benefits at this time. Therefore, we have made the decision to temporarily make this feature unavailable to ensure a reliable user experience.

Yeah I truly don’t understand this decision whatsoever, it makes no sense. I get that a certain portion of AMD GPU users were having issues, but punish every single owner of an AMD GPU seems very extreme and even a bit suspicious. Why not let us make the choice of enabling Path Tracer at the possible risk of instability? specially since, at least in my case and many others I know, we never had major issues using it in 2.10 and are now forced to stay in an older build since we are being offered an inferior product compared to Nvidia users.
I truly hope this decision gets reversed soon otherwise D5 is just going to fall behind by forcing us to get a different brands GPU.
