Lack of Proxy Support - Preventing Our Studio From Switching To D5

Hello D5 Team,

You all have such a wonderful product here for so many reasons and we desperately want to switch our studio to D5 (and encourage others to do the same) but there is ONE primary feature holding us back.

That feature is the lack of a Proxy representation of an asset existing within the modeling app.

The need:

1. A D5 asset shows up in Sketchup/Rhino as a wireframe bounding box
2. Ability to place a D5 “proxy” in the 3D modeling app like how we can place lights in the scene and control their exact positioning.
3. This should be bidirectional meaning, rotating, translating, scaling the proxy box in the modeling app should update the transform accordingly in D5 and updating the rotation, translation, and scale in D5 should update the proxy box in the modeling app

wish list:

1. when placing a d5 proxy in the modeling app, allow the user to choose an asset file from disk, store the reference to this in the proxy metadata so that d5 app can then load this from disk as .skp, or .fbx, or .d5a or whatever extension it would be into the local library for the project automatically

Working on large scale projects that have classrooms, labs, auditoriums, stadium seating, mixes of furniture across different spaces, hospitals, etc. having to place large quantities of furniture in D5 “manually” simply isn’t viable.

Many designers and artists already place furniture as part of their floor plans, design studies, sketchup/rhino/revit models/autocad models as place holder blocks (components) and swapping these for proxies, d5 library assets, and custom user library assets is CRITICAL in the workflow on any project sized larger than a single room or small scale residential house.

As soon as you all can implement this, we can make the switch to D5.

Without this feature, regretfully we will be unable to make the switch.
I know we are just one studio in a sea of many but we are posting this as it has been brought up a few times in separate posts on these forums and really is, in our opinion, the most critical, missing feature.

Dear D5 Render team, I would like to make a suggestion for a very important feature, that D5 Render lacks. This topic has already been discussed extensively here. I can see it is flagged as “Planned”, which is very encouraging. I hope this feature really will be added soon. Placing a 3D asset in D5 Render should also place a proxy copy of it in the host application and vice versa.
