We’re working on a resort model in SketchUp and D5 Render, covering ~1,350,000 sq. ft. The project is split into 5 files, each ~40 GB, but they’ve become very heavy—lagging badly and taking ~30 minutes just to render an HD image.

We’ll soon start another project (~8,100,000 sq. ft.) and, despite using D5 assets to reduce load, files are still almost unusable.

Please suggest ways to achieve a smoother workflow and recommend a suitable PC configuration.

To clarify, are each of the 5 files sized at 40 GB each? What is the VRAM of these devices that are being used to open these files?

  • Generally, a bigger VRAM would be recommended when dealing with complex files.

I think you can explore with other options such as:

  • Running Smooth Mode
  • Disabling Path Tracing
  • Using Project Merge Widget (Just to lessen the load but will have to separate the files agin)
