File is not opening

Approximately 1-2 hours ago, I batch-rendered several scenes and set D5 to auto-close after completing the task. I then turned off my PC and attended to other tasks. Upon reviewing my renders, I decided to open D5 again to add some finishing touches. However, no matter what I try, the file refuses to open.

I’ve attempted multiple methods: starting it from Rhino, opening it directly from the D5 file, launching it via the recent files in D5, and even restarting my computer—all to no avail.

The message reads: “Out of memory trying to allocate a rendering resource. Make sure your video card has the minimum required memory, and try lowering the resolution and/or closing other applications that are running. Exiting…” (I have an RTX 4060ti with 16 GB of VRAM and the file used to open without any problems previously)

This file contains all my hard work, including carefully created scenes and added materials. I’ve invested a significant amount of time into this project, and there’s still much to be done. Starting over would be a huge setback, so I’d appreciate any assistance recovering the file.

Thank you in advance!

Hi there,

I apologize for the inconvenience. Were there a lot of assets used in your project files? I suggest optimizing your file by hiding assets not seen in specific scenes (once you have opened it again).

As for a way to open your file, you may try the following:

Let me know if this helps, thank you.

if u can share complete project i can try to recover ur file. i have rtx 3090.

Well, It did work the first time, but after a while, it kept getting worse, I segmented my workflow into multiple different files I use one file for exteriors one for Interiors, and one for just one specific scene but the file is still messed up, even tho it worked without any issues and multiple times, I did delete the f2 files and I did reinstall D5 but as soon as I redownload the assets it crashes, showing me that I have run out of GPU Memory

(Just to be clear I have an rtx 4060ti with 16gb of vram)

My university project deadline is coming closer and closer so it would mean the world to me to fix this issue as quickly as possible

Thanks in advance

Hi @zurab_khorkheli,

I apologize for the inconvenience you’re experiencing. Based on your description, it seems that the issue is related to certain assets causing excessive GPU usage after your recent updates.

Could you please let me know if you have any procedurally generated assets in your scene? These can significantly increase your VRAM usage. Additionally, I recommend deleting the ‘f2’ folder to regain access to your file, and it’s best to avoid updating assets until you have optimized your scene. Removing any unused PGA/vines can also help reduce VRAM usage.

For detailed instructions on resolving memory issues, please refer to the provided link [Hot Issue] TDR Problems and Out of Memory Crash Related Issues - Get Help - D5 RENDER FORUM

I have three or maybe four instances of procedurally generated vines in the model, but the problem is that even though I have deleted the f2 files now it still won’t open, is there any other way I can try? (I have already reinstalled D5)

Hi @zurab_khorkheli Ensure you have deleted the f2 folder from the correct directory. If you have a different version of D5 installed on your computer, you will have different F2 folders. Please confirm the current location from Menu> General> Assets Storage
