fbx file exported from revit doesn't show materials

D5 Render Version: 2.10.2.0589
**Graphics Card:**Nvidia RTX4000 Generation laptop GPU

**Driver Version:**31.0.15.5305
Issue Description:
FBX file doesn’t show the materials or objects (like walls, roofs, ceiling, etc)

Screenshots/Videos Description:

Steps to Reproduce (optional):

Hi @patriotadrayton

This is a limitation for Revit FBX to D5 Render. If you wish to separate the different families into groups, I recommend using the D5 Sync Plug-in.

The .d5a export does support group export, but may need to be selected.

Thank you Clov!

I have the D5 Sync Plug-in, but that syncs the revit model, and I have had issues, with elements in the view not being aligned…

If you see this link below @ min 3:03, the instructor is opening a fbx file (without D5 sync plug in) and the fbx file opens with the objects ready for material to be applied?
Is there a version of anything that I am missing? How did the instructor generate a fbx file that has no limitation? Thank you again!

Hi @patriotadrayton

In the video, the model was imported as a whole and was not separated into different groups according to their categories.

  • They have the same way as you: Revit > .fbx format > directly importing it to D5 Render

  • Your prior question was why the model was imported into a single object; hence, the fbx format import limitation.

  • As you can see in the video, when he applied glass material on the model, the file format changed into a .d5a, which does not import the whole model as a single material.

Hi Clov,

My goal is to use separate objects in D5 to be able to apply materials.
I understand, you said generating FBX from Revit, has its limitations.
In the video, the instructor opens the fbx file (originally), then he applied glass material on part of the model… how was he able to have those parts separated? ( not using the direct sync from Revit). How the .d5a file( (for the glass material example) got in the model in the first place? ( specially with the limitation of the fbx file?..Thank you again for your time!

Hi @patriotadrayton

I’m pretty sure the instructor used the d5a file format to assign D5 Materials, I suggest that you do so too. Exporting to D5a is very much possible with the help of D5 Sync Plug-in for Revit, you may refer to the image below.

Let me try this workflow… thank you Clov!

Alright you’re welcome. Let me know if there are any more issues.
