Emissive material flickered in still render

**D5 Render Version:2.10.1.0579
**Graphics Card:NVIDIA 4070
**Driver Version:32.0.15.6614
**Issue Description: my recent file of this project, suddenly the emissive material caused flicker in the preview, and affecting the still render
**Screenshots/Videos Description:

before

**Steps to Reproduce (optional): If i turned off the cast shadow on the emissive material, it was better, but the light intensity and effect will be different

anyway to solve this?

Thank you!

Tommy

Hi @tommy

I apologize for the inconvenience. Have you tried disabling the following:

Note: You don’t have to disable everything, just test which settings are causing the flicker.

somehow all those options are never turned on…

but those flickering emissive material, just suddenly appeared.

by the way i have 2 files with the same emissive material, one without flicker, and my recent ones started to flickered, i am not sure what caused it.

the only different with both files are the additional lights objects, but even after i turned off all the lights or the layers, the flicker still appeared.

by the way, i am working using sketchup for modelling.

Hi @tommy

Can you share with us a video recording of the issue? And also the file, so we can test it on our end and see if it is replicated.

Hi @tommy

I just tested your file.

  • It’s the same on my end, if I enable “Cast Shadow” on these emissive lights, there are visual artifacts that appear to be very bright.

BUT

  • If I disable “Cast Shadow,” it will significantly improve and does not affect the light’s intensity. Please check my screen recording with this link: Unique Download Link | WeTransfer
  • It only affects the Preview window; the bright visual artifacts are not evident in the final video render. You can check the result at this link: Unique Download Link | WeTransfer

By the way, just to clarify, the video you have sent to us via Email was it a screen record of the preview window or is it the final video render?

Hi Clov,

Thank you, but i beg to differ, the effect are significantly weaker, without “cast shadow” turned on, that’s why on my initial post, i have two different files preview, as you can see on the second image, the cove light using emissive material with cast shadow turned on were significantly brighter and much more contrast.

by the way i am using D5 render only to render still for now, so yeah, this issue is a problem to me,

below are still render from two different files, from same 3D model, using same emissive material, with different temperature.

both using “cast shadow”, the first without flicker, second with flicker.

and this 3rd render, are same file as second render with “cast shadow” turned off

Hi @tommy

Can you also send us the D5 file, which does not have any flicker despite enabling Cast Shadow?

We just tested your file, and indeed, the latest file that you have sent does not have any flickering issues despite having the same setup. I may need to confirm some information from you, such as:

  • Which is the main file? Is it Newport 001 or Newport 003?
  • How were they duplicated? Was it made by “Save As” using the main file?
  • Are they using the same model version?

You might also want to check the following:

  • Surfaces of self-emissive objects overlapped or were interspersed with other models.

Note: It is expected to have some flickering issues when Cast Shadow is enabled. There are large self-emissive planes in the scene that cause abnormal accuracy and thus flicker; try turning off the “Emissive - Cast Shadow”.
