Hi @binu_alex

I’ve tried rendering a video on my end, and I haven’t encountered such slow rendering time in the latest version. Can you confirm if this issue persists in all your other files too?

You might also want to send us the following images to check:

Same problem with the latest update, even with an RTX 5070, it takes twice as long to render the same video, in fact I uninstalled the latest version and installed a version twice as old and the rendering times are normal.

Kindly listen to the community as this is not an isolated issue.
D5 2.11 has double the render time

Hi @georgeallankush

We’re listening to your feedback and are not dismissing your concerns. An issue that we’re unable to replicate means there is something with your personal setup that’s causing it, and we’re determined to find out.

If you can provide us with detailed info, just like @david12 then that will be greatly appreciated.

Hi @david12 @georgeallankush @binu_alex

This only occurs with specific files, right? Or to all of your files. Please send us the following:

You may send it to support@d5techs.com and have it titled 2.11 Clov-Forum D5 Rendering Slow and let me know if you have sent it so I can pick it up right away.

Thanks for help, I already sent over an email with a dropbox link.

Hi @david12

We have received your files. Thank you.

Hi everyone, most especially to @david12 who sent his files to us for testing

Can you please confirm if Path Tracing was enabled in 2.10?

In version 2.10, Path Tracing (PT) was an optional feature not enabled by default. In version 2.11, however, PT is enabled by default. While this provides significantly higher visual quality, it is also more demanding on performance, which may make the default rendering speed feel slower.

  • We are aware of this performance difference. If the rendering speed in 2.11 is not acceptable for your workflow, you can enable “Old GI Compatibility Mode” under Preferences → Rendering.

  • After doing our tests with your files, when Path Tracing is enabled in both versions, version 2.11 is significantly faster.

Ok This option not enabled. Anyway I will try this and let you know (Legacy D5… bit confusing- and in future release you age going to remove this option itself…)

Hi @binu_alex

Basically, it just means that enabling the D5 Legacy option turns off PT.

Yes now i can see the difference. So from next version onwards we have to wait long for final result…

@binu_alex

What do you mean? Path Tracing is expected to increase the rendering time even in previous versions.

Anyway, try to test the render speed with PT enabled in the 2.11 hotfix version, if it is already released. Thanks.

Possibly consider adding a toggle button for video rendering to have path tracing on/off. The path tracer is excellent for images but it has killed my video render times, so much so that I am beginning to not bother. Even with the latest 2.11 patch.

If I could also easily send off the video to render on a render farm server, I’d happily pay the small fee for that vs the current cost to upgrade my RTX3080 to a 5080/90.

Hi @tim1

Path Tracing can be disabled by enabling the D5 Legacy option.

  • Although this will disable PT in both image and video renderings, you may enable it again while rendering images.

Yes, I have toggled PT off and enabled the legacy GI for video rendering in the meantime until I update to a new GPU.

I was also under the impression the ability to toggle to the old GI was temporary and won’t be available in the future. Is that not correct?

But also, my point was that the ability to toggle quickly between the legacy GI and the new path tracer (especially for video) would be a welcome addition to the UI instead of burying it within the settings menu. My client project walk-through’s for video with the path tracer are far too long so I personally need to enable the legacy GI for video. It’s a substantial hit to renter time, particularly with video.

Hi @tim1

Alright, I understand.

I don’t think the D5 Legacy option will be removed in the future. Anyway, I’ll forward this suggestion to our team and I also suggests putting this request in Ideas & Requests. Latest Ideas & Requests topics - D5 RENDER FORUM

@Clov

I don’t think the D5 Legacy option will be removed in the future.

The UI subtext on the current GI toggle states it’ll be removed in the future.
