I’m running into a critical issue and would really appreciate any help.
Today my PC shut down unexpectedly while a D5 scene was still open. Since then, I’ve been unable to open the file. Neither the original, the autosave, nor any history versions. D5 crashes every time, right after 5% of the loading screen.
This puts me in a very difficult position professionally. Only because I had created a manual backup yesterday can I recover part of the work. But everything from today is lost, and seems completely unrecoverable.
Even more problematic: the renderings were already finished. If the client now requests revisions, I would have to rebuild the entire scene down to the millimeter, which is obviously not ideal and barely feasible.
To clarify:
– The file is stored locally (not on any cloud service)
– Autosave was active
– No folders or file paths have been altered
– Only this scene is affected others open fine
Is there any way to repair a corrupted D5 file, or to extract geometry, assets or data from it manually?
Any help or experience would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER
D5 Renderer Version: 2.11
I apologize for the inconvenience. I want to confirm a few things:
Is this the same file that you were talking about on your other forum topic?
The repeating log error that you have mentioned is this evident every time you open D5 Render? Please clarify if the error prompt is related to D5 since it’s my first time encountering such an error prompt.
Please generate a log file for us, too, and if this is a different file, share it with us also.
Send it to support@d5techs.com and have it titled 2.11 Clov-Forum D5 Render Crash After Forced Shutdown Fatal Error
Yes, this is the same file I referred to in my other forum post regarding missing materials.
To clarify:
The EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION error appears only when trying to open this specific scene file, and it crashes D5 Render after 5% loading. Other D5 files open normally without any issues.
So yes, the crash seems to be directly related to this particular D5 project.
I’ve just created a full log file as requested and I’ll send it via mail, together with the project file.
I just opened your file on my end, and I’m not encountering the fatal error prompt, but instead, I’m having 2 issues which may be related to what you are experiencing.
Inadequate Permissions - This issue may be caused by the language that was used as a File name or simply because this file was placed in a location where you do not have full control. You can try checking the folder’s properties.
Thanks a lot for checking my file and getting back to me.
After receiving your suggestions, I updated my NVIDIA drivers as advised. However, since doing so, I’m now encountering a new issue when trying to open D5 or the file. I receive the following error:
Low TDR value detected.
Detected a low TDR value on the current device, which may impact performance and stability. Fix the issue to ensure proper functioning of the software.
I’ve now managed to work around the TDR warning by launching D5 as administrator and restarting my PC. That error no longer shows up but the scene still won’t open, which brings me back to the original problem.
Regarding the other points you mentioned:
Inadequate Permissions
Could this be related to special characters in the file name? I’m using German characters (like ä, ö, ü) Would that cause issues?
Also, the file is located in a local folder under my user profile. I double-checked and permissions are okay.
Main 3D Model File Missing
Do you mean that the imported assets are still present, but the core architectural model is missing?
Just for context: I used Rhino LiveSync to bring the model into D5.
Is it possible that D5 relied on some sort of dynamic link or path reference to Rhino, and that this connection got broken or corrupted (possibly during a crash or when the TDR-related issue appeared)?
Since I can’t open the scene anymore, I’m currently unable to re-link or re-sync the Rhino model.
Do you have more detailed info on how D5 handles LiveSync data from Rhino? Is the geometry embedded into the file, or is there some form of external reference that could have been lost?
I don’t think the error prompt was directly related to the German Characters, but some issues may arise with these special characters in the long run.
Yes, basically all the settings were preserved when I opened it on my end, but the main 3d Model File has disappeared (but is still in the object list), I can collect your 3d Model File and reload it and resave your file.
I think the plug-in creates an external reference with your Rhino File.
Just another request, can you send us a screenshot of the error prompt that appears every time you open this file? As I have shared, I can’t replicate this issue on my end, and we may need to further test your logs to determine what’s causing such issue.
It would be amazing if you could reload the 3D model and resave the file for me. I’d really appreciate that!
When I try to open the file on my end, there’s actually no visible error prompt. D5 just crashes immediately. I only found the fatal error noted in the log files. “Fatal error!
Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION reading address 0x0000000000000054”
If you were referring to the Low TDR Value issue, I’ve attached the relevant screenshots here. However, I was able to bypass that issue using a workaround, and it hasn’t appeared again since then.
ah, I see thanks for clarifying! I think that part got lost in translation on my side.
I actually thought you would be resaving the D5 file that opens fine on your end, and then send it back to me so I can simply relink my Rhino file here.
Would that be possible? I believe this would be the easiest solution to get the project running again without losing any existing settings.
