D5 Render Crashing Due to Video Memory Error

I am currently experiencing a serious issue while working on one of my projects in D5 Render. During modeling and navigation, my monitor suddenly flickers, turns off, turns back on, and an error message appears saying:

“Error: Out of video memory trying to allocate a rendering resource. Make sure your video card has the minimum required memory, try lowering the resolution and/or closing other applications that are running. Exiting.”

I have attached a screenshot of the error message for reference.

After this error appears, D5 Render closes unexpectedly. Even though I have AutoSave enabled every five minutes, the program does not seem to recover from those automatic saves, causing me to lose all the progress I have made since the last manual save.

In addition to the crashes, the viewport has become extremely slow during navigation. What is strange is that I have previously worked on projects significantly larger than this one, with nearly twice as many plants, without experiencing these issues. However, this relatively smaller project has become very sluggish and keeps crashing unexpectedly. At this point, I am not sure what else I can do.

My workstation specifications are:

  • Processor: Intel Core i9-13900F (13th Gen), 24 cores / 32 logical processors
  • Memory: 32 GB DDR5 (4000 MT/s)
  • Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 (16 GB VRAM)
  • Storage: Kingston SNV3S1000G 1 TB NVMe SSD
  • Motherboard: ASRock Z790 LiveMixer

D5 Version: 3.1.0

Windows 11

Could you PLEASEe help me identify what might be causing this issue? If there are any recommended settings, diagnostic steps, or logs that I can provide, I would be happy to do so.

Thank you very much for your time and support.

Hi @guilherme

  • Does this problem occur in other files? Or is it file-specific? (If empty, demo, or very light scenes has also a similar issue it may be a bug that needs to be reported as soon as possible)

  • Can you normally create new scene files or run D5 demo files? If the problem only exists with the current project or some of the scene files, it is likely that the file is too heavy and is taking up too much video memory, exceeding the load of your current device, and you need to lighten and optimize your file.

You’ve mentioned that you have opened larger files compared to the one that you’re currently working with.
