D5 Render crashing at 99% loading or shortly after opening projects – Need help

Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing serious stability issues with D5 Render and would appreciate any advice or suggestions.

Problem description:
My projects either:

  • crash during loading at around 99% , or
  • open successfully but then D5 crashes shortly after opening .

This issue happens on multiple projects , not only one specific file.

What I already tried:

  • Reinstalled D5 Launcher
  • Reinstalled D5 Render
  • Disabled overlays/background software that could interfere
  • Tested different projects
  • Restarted PC

My system specs:

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-14700KF
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 (16 GB VRAM)
  • RAM: 64 GB
  • Motherboard: ASUS TUF GAMING Z790-PLUS WIFI
  • BIOS Version: 1805 (30.10.2024)
  • OS: Windows 11 Pro
  • Windows Version: 10.0.26100 (Build 26100)

D5 Information:

  • D5 Render Version: 3.0.1

GPU Driver Information:

  • NVIDIA Driver Version: 581.29

Crash behavior:

  • D5 often crashes at around 99% during project loading
  • Sometimes the project opens, but D5 crashes shortly after
  • Happens on multiple different projects

Additional Information:

  • Projects are stored locally
  • I am concerned about reinstalling everything because I have a local material/model library
  • Not sure whether this started after a D5 or driver update

Has anyone experienced something similar or found a reliable fix? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi @studio3

Please confirm if this also occurs to:

  • New D5 Files (empty)
  • Demo Scene Files
  • Were you prompted to update your D5 Launcher before this occurred? I assume you were able to use D5 normally before.
  • Or were there any actions that you have done that might have triggered it, such as a D5 Launcher update, windows update, etc.

We have identified several potential solutions for the D5 Render stability issues you’re experiencing, which align with your system configuration and crash behavior:

  1. Update your BIOS
  • Your current BIOS version (1805, 30.10.2024) may not include the critical Intel microcode patch (0x129) that addresses CPU instability issues. Intel has released this patch for 13th/14th Gen Core processors to fix crashes in DX12 applications like D5 Render.

  • Download and install the latest BIOS update for your ASUS TUF GAMING Z790-PLUS WIFI motherboard from the official ASUS website.

  • Intel Processor Instability Causing Oodle Decompression Failures

  1. Disable CPU overclocking and XMP profile
  • Enter your BIOS settings and disable CPU overclocking, as well as any XMP memory profiles. Reset these settings to their default values.
  1. Repair system files using command-line tools
  • Open Command Prompt as Administrator
  • Run DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth and wait for completion
  • Run sfc /scannow to repair corrupted system files

If issue still persists, please send us your log files.
