Hello,
I have used VRAY and Lumion before trying out D5 Pro. Although there’s a limitation to the image output as compared to VRAY (the last time I did 20K resolution), it is way easier to use than VRAY. Lumion has tons of feature but not realistic, it is artistic but not realistic. D5 can produce beautiful renderings but has so much flaws that needs fixing unless I am missing something.

PROBLEM NUMBER 1
I do not know how to fix this Subsurface Scattering Issue. With this issue, Fog and Bloom effects are affected.
Effect of scattering issue - no fog
Before the scattering issue _ you can see the fog
Bloom with scattering issue - Bloom set at 0.35 - see lights above the lady.
Bloom has to be set low - this time at 0.1

PROBLEM NUMBER 2
Assigned materials kept changing by itself. I tried reinstalling the D5 Livesync but did not solve the issue. Since yesterday, I have deleted and reapplied the right material to the Sketchup model as well as D5 but upon saving, closing and opening the program, the assigned materials (some areas) were changed.
The above screenshot with the stone ceiling - supposed to be wood.
This was the original material and what it was supposed to be.
Wood grain reoriented and the other side of the mullion material was changed
I also revised this (right side below the pool) many times, at least 12 times from yesterday.

PROBLEM NUMBER 3
When setting path with multiple characters, D5 prompts me to update the asset every time I want to edit the path (and also while editing)
I hope someone can shed some light on how to resolve these issues. Such a great program but so much flaws. Or is this program limited to smaller projects?
**D5 Render Version: 2.5.2.0332
**Graphics Card: NVIDIA 4090 RTX
**Driver Version: 31.0.15.3742
**Issue Description: Many Issues - see above
**Screenshots/Videos Description: See above
**Steps to Reproduce (optional): Once you save, close reboot and reopen D5 and Livesync. Sometimes, assigned materials will change by itself even while working on the model/scene.
This is the picture with FOG
The picture with stone ceiling. Sorry, I am not sure why the pictures are not in order.
Hi there, thank you for posting.

Regarding the problems of Bloom effect and Fog effect, could you compress the scene file and send it to us for analysis? Our rendering team will check that.

About the material sync issue between SketchUp and D5 Render, we think it is related to some specific components or materials as well. If possible, hope you can send us the model file and D5 scene file as well. (I checked the file you sent to Luna, and we found that there are duplicated models in the scene which caused flickering issue, please choose “Replace” instead of “create a new link model” when syncing the file to D5 again.

We cannot reproduce the issue, to confirm, did you update the assets successfully after it let you to update? If the problem persists, could you send us the scene file as well?
Best Regards,
Oliver
Hello Oliver, Thank you for your response. I will send you the files. Through D5 tech email? I have the updated model from the older back up flickering file (before the flickering). The flickering as I mentioned to Luna was the result of multiple model sync to D5. This new updated model/D5 file has one Sketchup model sync to it and flickering is gone. As far as the material sync issue, I already resolved that as well by reinstalling the converter (several times) then reboot the computer. Syncing is back to normal.
Although I came up with other solutions for this updated model (will send to you soon) but the following problem still persists:
- Fog
- Bloom
- Every time I need to edit the character path with multiple characters, D5 prompts me to update the same assets.
I think the Subsurface Scattering problem on this model is affecting the fog and bloom.
Hi Oliver,
Please let me know where you want me to send you the files.
Hey walterjlima,
D5 runs with a modified Unreal Engine under the hood. If you’re familiar with UE4/5 then perhaps the bloom and scattering issues you’re seeing might make more sense for you.
The bloom effect is based on screen space and intensity. It is a fairly cheap effect, and works great mostly in interiors but can be tricky for distant lights. For lights like the recessed ones above the balcony that are quite small in that shot, you’re better off photoshopping the bloom or light flares in.
Most material issues are typically caused by user errors or failures in sync. With large or complicated projects it can be better to sync once, then update components via FBX import. This allows more stability and more control over your scene.
The wood grain issue is typically caused by poor UV generating by software. Dedicated 3D apps like Blender or Max can give you better control over UVs vs. something like Sketchup. You can try tri-planar shader settings in D5 to see if that fixes the wood grain alignment as well.
Just some tips I thought will help.
Hello Sepigraph,
Thank you for your input. I will try to use your advise on future projects.
