[BUG REPORT] Screen goes black during certain actions – suspected software conflict (RTX 3060)

Hi D5 Team,

I’m experiencing a serious issue with D5 Render that causes my screen to go black under certain conditions, even though the CPU and system still seem to be running in the background. This problem appears to be software-related, and I suspect it might be a conflict with my current drivers or D5 itself.

:wrench: System Specs:
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060

CPU: CPU Intel Core i9 14900K

RAM: 64GB DDR4]

D5 Render version: 2.6.0

OS: Windows 11

:clipboard: Issue Description:

  • During certain actions in D5 Render (e.g. starting a render, modifying materials, or even interacting with imported SketchUp models),
the screen goes completely black, and in some cases the PC restarts by itself.
  • This only happens with specific project files. I’ve tested the same files on another machine with similar specs, and they worked perfectly fine.
  • The issue tends to occur when GPU usage spikes (e.g. previewing scenes, material updates, or rendering).
  • The problem seems to be limited to D5, as no other rendering apps cause this behavior,
the entire screen turns black, but the system does not crash completely.

Hi @daddyproxx

I apologize for the inconvenience, and we appreciate the detailed description that you have provided.

Just to clarify:

  • You’ve mentioned that this only happens to specific files and functions normally in other devices, so basically, opening a Demo Scene File, Empty File, or perhaps another file that is equivalent to this particular file’s size, functions normally on your end?

  • Have you tried updating your D5 Render Version to 2.10? Or if you do not prefer the latest one, then at least 2.9 Version?

Suggestion:

  • Since you’re using an i9 14900K CPU, please update your BIOS by visiting your motherboard’s official website.
  • Update your Graphics Card Driver to 572.47 (Don’t Update to the latest one)

Although you have sent us your device’s information, we may still need the following images:

Hello Clov, thank you for your support.
I will upload the images you requested later, as I have already reviewed similar posts and tried the suggested solutions myself.
Please kindly consider my case as follows:
Everything was working fine until I used AI Enhance on a material map. Right after that, my computer crashed, and the problem has been happening since then.

I initially thought the issue was caused by my hardware, so I tried replacing the hard drive, reinstalling Windows and all software, updating the graphics card driver, updating the BIOS, and even using a different power supply with higher wattage — but the problem still persists.

Thank you for looking into this!

I believe the issue occurs when the GPU usage suddenly spikes to 100%; sometimes the computer crashes immediately, and sometimes it happens after about 5 minutes!
I am currently using SketchUp, and I have also tried exporting the file to 3ds Max format and testing it with D5, but the same issue still occurs!

Hi @daddyproxx

Are you able to open a D5 Demo Scene File? You may try to open Residence Lawn if it is normal.

  • Using an AI Enhance should not result in this problem. Did you perhaps update your system or driver before working on your project?

  • Please try the suggestions that I have listed in my previous reply and let me know if there are any differences.

If you’re willing, you can also try a complete reinstallation of D5 Render

Note: Please save a copy of your D5 Workspace folder if there are important assets from your local library

@Clov Sorry for the late response. I am sending the images you requested. I have also tried the troubleshooting methods you mentioned, but the results remain the same. I truly appreciate your support!

Hi @daddyproxx

Thanks for sending these images. There are points that I may need to point out based on it.

Please try the suggestions that I have given in my first reply.

  • Since you’re using an i9 14900K CPU, please update your BIOS by visiting your motherboard’s official website.
  • Downgrade your Graphics Card Driver to 572.47 (Don’t Update to the latest one) since you’re using 576.02 which is known to cause some issues so its better to be safe.

Aside from it,

  • You might also want to try to uninstall your D5 Render and reinstall it in another Path. Based on your screenshot, it might be best to put it either in your SDD Storages (E, F, or C)
  • After trying my suggestions, please generate a log file for us - How to use Support Tool? | User Manual

Thank you.

Thank you @Clov , I’ve attached the log file in hopes that this issue can be resolved soon. Almost all of my current projects are rendered using D5, so please fix it as soon as possible!

I’ve tried all of your suggestions, but the result is still the same. I honestly feel hopeless!

Hi @daddyproxx

Thanks for the confirmation. We will proceed with further investigation and troubleshooting of your log files. I have also asked for specific scene files that are experiencing this issue, please check your DMs.
