Working with multiple PCs

Hello. I have a question about working with D5 on multiple PCs. Currently, I’m storing D5 data on Google Drive and trying to open it on multiple PCs for work. However, when I open data saved on one PC on another PC, the Livesync (Rhino) data disappears, making it impossible to work. If I perform Livesync on another PC, the material settings disappear. If I export the model as a D5a file and import it on another PC, I can work on the model with the materials intact. However, the coordinates no longer match the original ones. Even if I note the original coordinates and input the same values into the imported D5a file, the model ends up in a different position.

I understand that storing data on Google Drive isn’t ideal (it should be done on a NAS, etc.), but I’m not in a position to set up a NAS immediately. I’d like to know if there’s a better way to handle data storage online using Google Drive or similar services.

Thank you for your help.

Hi @shido

I think you can use Google Drive as a method for transferring data from one device to another, but if you’re going to keep editing it on another device, then I highly suggest having it downloaded in your Local Path first.

  • The Livesync linkage stores the data from the previous device, basically the file location of your 3d Model. You may need to manually restore the linkage when opened with another device, and to restore it, you can open the D5 file first, then activate the live sync and you’ll be presented with this prompt.
