Why do materials sometimes disappear?

On rare occasions I have noticed that when I return to a project, one or two materials might have vanished. Grass, a painted on hedge material and a basic brick material all disappeared from my current project over the weekend?

Hi there; I apologize for the inconvenience. Does it display a white material instead? Did you perhaps open the file through a cloud storage service (Google Drive, OneDrive, etc.)? Would it be possible for you to send some screenshots or video recordings of the issue occurring? Thank you.

Definitely a path issue, although he says it happens on rare occasionsā€¦

If I use a basic sketchup texture for hedges that I then paint with a ā€œsingleā€ hedge asset, sometimes the assets disappear and reveal the SU texture so I have to repeat the process (itā€™s not really a problem as the brush history retains the information which also indicates that the process was initially done correctly and saved), the same happens when I change a basic SU grass texture to ā€œgrassā€ in D5. This has happened 4 or 5 times in the last few months.

Yesterday I had replaced a SU brick texture with a D5 brick texture and that was totally white - this has never happened before.

Hi there,

Are you perhaps using cloud storage (Google Drive, OneDrive, etc.) for this? How about the name of the SketchUp Material? Was it named normally? It could be a path issue, as mentioned by @huntermorrow3301; you might want to ensure that you are granted administrative rights to these file paths. Otherwise, we might need to confirm the steps you have mentioned inorder for us to replicate the issue. Thank you.

I have cloud backup, but the active files are on my desktop. I donā€™t change the names of the SU materials.

Iā€™m going to assume that the brick turning white was an isolated incident and unlikely to happen again, but the grass/hedge issue happens frequently enough for me to enquire further with you, I assumed it might be happening with others and there would be an obvious error, but it might just be my fault somehow.

Hi there,

Have you noticed the frequency or perhaps a time frame in which these materials disappear? Maybe the number of hours after the file was closed? You may send your files to us so we can assess whether this issue occurs on our end. You may send them to support@d5techs.com and have them titled ā€˜Clov-Forum: Material Disappear.ā€™

It has just happened again, but the circumstances were different this time. I had my sketchup model and D5 synced while I made some changes and I then had to save my SU model as a revised version, but when I did that it lost all of the imported/custom material texture mapping and defaulted everything back to 0.4 roughness, 0 Normal and reverted Displacement materials to ā€˜Customā€™.

Am I supposed to save my Sketchup model as a new version with D5 closed and then re-sync it?

Hi there,

I apologise for the inconvenience. You certainly do not need to save your SKP Model as a new version when you close D5 and then proceed to resync it. Given that, it is the same model file linked to D5; no necessary file location transfer or material renaming was made. Addtionally, I would like to confirm if you are using a company network (with some kind of encryption/protection software?)

Could you send us your log files and Scene Files (D5 and SKP) for this since I was unsuccessful in recreating this issue on my end? You may send them to support@d5techs.com and have them titled ā€˜Clov-Forum: Material Disappear.ā€™

Thank you.

Hi there,

Can you also send us a screenshot of this window? Thank you.
