What does 'Drop' do in the path tool?

I cannot find any documentation about the ‘Drop’ toggle button on the path tool. Can someone explain what it’s for?

Hi friend,
If you don’t select Drop, then the object you place will probably float in the air, whereas if Drop is selected then the object will fall to the ground.
