Hi,
I’m a D5 Pro subscriber, working with D5 Render 3.1.1 and 3ds Max on Windows.
I tried using OpenAI Codex to operate D5 Render for an architectural visualization project, but I couldn’t get reliable control working.
The goal is for Codex to search the D5 asset library, place furniture, adjust materials and lighting, and launch renders.
Codex’s desktop-control tool failed to activate the main D5 editor window, reporting:
“failed to activate captured window”
I tried restarting D5, opening the project directly through the launcher instead of through 3ds Max synchronization, and opening the Assets window separately. These steps did not resolve the issue.
An alternative Windows automation tool managed some basic clicks and text entry, but we still haven’t established a reliable workflow for scene editing and rendering.
Is there a supported API, scripting interface, MCP integration, or recommended automation method for controlling D5 Render itself from an external AI assistant such as Codex?
Are there any known compatibility issues with Windows accessibility or desktop automation tools?
I’m looking for a supported solution that does not modify D5’s installation files or compromise project stability.
Thanks.
