I’ve been working on a D5 file as usual. The last time I used it, I added some final touch-ups including decals, rendered a few images, saved the file, and closed the program normally.
However, two days later, the file refuses to open. I’ve tried creating a duplicate copy, but it still won’t load. It shows an “out of memory” error and stops loading at specific percentages each time.
For reference, my system specs are:
RAM: 32 GB
GPU: RTX 4070 SUPER *tried updating to latest drivers also
CPU: Intel Core i9
D5 version: Pro Educational
I attempted to delete the largest scatter file from the backend, and while the model briefly opened, D5 crashed shortly after.
I have an upcoming competition, and the file is already finalized, so reducing details isn’t ideal, but at the moment, I can’t even open the file to make adjustments.
I can’t seem to find a PC with higher specs and attached D5 license (I have a lot of pro assets) to check if its issue with my file or open to try and optimize it. I can see when while opening up the D5 file that ram usage (task manager) goes all the way to 21GB/32GB used when the file crashed.
Could you please advise how to resolve this issue or recover the file? its 3 months of work. it has everything set up including scenes. I want to render videos from it now. I have tried using many fixes already in the forum and the error seems to be with memory. How can I optimize the file without deleting stuff from it with it refusing to open?
*I have tried to open the file on my friends PC with same specs, with their education license and the error is same.
*One of the images here are after I deleted a scatter file. It briefly opened only to shut down in 30 seconds after hanging up.
*I have the whole folder uploaded on drive if team wants to take a look
Hi @ahmedbaig311 Could you check the VRAM usage when attempting to open this file and share a screenshot of the Task Manager showing the GPU?
What version of D5 are you using? Was the file created in the same version.
Feel free to share the file with us, and we’ll try opening it on our end to make adjustments and see if it works for you. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Thank you for your reply. Yes, the file was created and kept in the same D5 version.
I have dropped you a DM regarding my file and screenshot situation.
Hi @ahmedbaig311 Please check your inbox for the lightened version of your file. All procedurally generated assets have been removed to help reduce VRAM usage.
I also noticed that your file structure is not well organized. I strongly recommend optimizing it for improved performance. You can refer to the link below for detailed tips on scene optimization.
I have received the download link. I will be downloading it shortly. I will let the team and this forum know once the issue is resolved to be marked as ‘solution’.
First of all, Thank you for assistance and removing procedurally gen content. it made the file lighter but kept the same vibe. Really appreciate.
So I have tried to open the file. it opened only once. I moved around the model for 5 seconds and it crashed again and is not opening anymore. I am attaching the screenshots of task manager until the file crashes on loading screen. I suspect there is some texture that could be corrupt? Is there anything else that can be removed to make it lighter? It also could be something else as the file was working 100% fine even with all the details before. (however, I do admit procedurally gen content did start making it laggy) I rendered around 30 images on 2K/4K last time I used the software. saved it properly. Made a backup and closed the program.
In addition to removing some assets from your D5 file, I strongly recommend updating your drivers. Based on the screenshot you provided, your current drivers haven’t been updated since October 2024. The latest available version is 581, so updating to that should help improve performance and compatibility.
