Updated to 2.9 Now systems crushes and restarts when I try to render a scene

So I updated to 2.9
I opened a project worked on 2.8. When I tried to render a scene, during the rendering process (around 6%) my system crushed and restarted.
I uninstalled 2.9 and re-installed 2.8 but it now crushed again!
Any Ideas how to fix this?

My system is as follows:
msi z370m gaming pro ac
9900KF
64GB
RTX 3090 FE
Seasonic Prime GX-850 850W PSU

Hi there, I apologize for the inconvenience this issue has caused. May I confirm the following information:

You may also want to try to Optimize graphics memory usage. The following settings are available for optimization:

  • Start D5 Render with administrator privileges and restart your computer. The program will automatically modify the TDR values, which can improve the stability to a great extent.
  • Turn on DLSS.
  • Depth of field, Tyndall effect, and other settings can take up a lot of video memory, so use your discretion.
  • Higher resolution mapping will also take up video memory, you can replace the mapping of materials farther away from the camera with a lower resolution mapping and try to avoid using replacement.
  • More reflective scenes will reduce efficiency, you can turn the specular of materials far from the camera to 0 to cancel the reflection.
  • Windows’ own GPU usage data may not be accurate, we recommend using GPU-Z. Check the sensor-memory used parameter for better memory management.

Hi, have a look at the screen shots…

in gpu-z I get powercap notifications…
Could this be a psu issue?
It’s a Seasonic Prime GX-850 850W PSU installed on this pc since late 21.
I was getting this notifications beforehand too but didn’t have any problems with D5…

2-3 months ago I updated my m/b bios and D5 was working fine.
With the 2.9 update it started crashing again. It crashed when I reinstalled 2.8.
So I now rolled back to the older bios and now it doesn’t crash, even with 2.9…
I guess there are some bios settings that seam to affect D5…

Hi there. Thank you for providing this information. As you mentioned, was this issue resolved when you reverted your BIOS Settings to the previous version?

  • You might also want to check this user’s insight and suggestions regarding crashes, black screens, etc., and see if they help or coincide with the issue that you are currently experiencing. He solved it when he lowered his TDP percentage to 80%. If the GPU crash is caused by a temperature rise, manually lowering the GPUPowerTarget may help.

Thank you.
