Translucent material error

Hello,

I am getting an odd effect when using translucent materials. When viewed through another transparent material, the effect completely changes. See the images provided.
-seen directly, the basic translucent material is perfectly fine.
-when seen through another piece of glass, in this case looking at the translucent glass guardrail through a clear glass door, the translucent material turns into a dark tinted color.

is this a bug?

Hi @mcdermoa

There was a known issue before that involved textured glass materials when viewed through a glass, it displayed a darker shade, but was resolved when PT is enabled.

PT is for path-tracing, correct?

I do not see a toggle in 2.11 anymore like in 2.10. Is it just automatically on? Either way, I also tried adjusting the custom display settings but it doesn’t matter since it both displays and renders with the darker shade shown.

Hi @mcdermoa

Yes. Perhaps you can send me this particular file? You may send it to support@d5techs.com and have it titled ‘2.11 Clov-Forum Translucent Material Error’

Let me know if you have already sent it.

@Clov

is there any resolution to this?

The model is 7GB, not realistic to send via email.

@clov,

I recreated a simple file demonstrating this and have emailed it to the address. Unfortunately, it happens no matter what. Also, noticing that translucent materials exhibit a “sided” quality, in that they look translucent from one side, and nearly transparent from the other, more like how a “foilage” material would behave, not glass.

Hi @mcdermoa

  • This issue is already considered a known issue (a bug), which will be further improved in subsequent releases.
  • As for the rear portion of the transparent material, which tends to have a milky texture, the issue has been replicated even on our end and will be further optimized.
