Trandfer local assets to new PC

Hi, I just purchased a new PC and need to transfer all my local assets to my new PC. Can some one please advice me on how I can do this? Thanks all.

George

hi, congrats on new pc…
To transfer all local assets in D5 Render, especially when moving to a new computer or changing the storage location, follow these steps: [1]

  • Locate the Current Asset Storage:
    • For D5 Render versions earlier than 2.11: Open D5 Render, navigate to “Menu” > “Preferences” > “Assets Storage” > “Current Location” to identify the D5 Workspace folder where your assets are stored.
    • For D5 Render versions 2.11 and later: Open D5 Launcher, go to “Setting” > “Workspace” to find the current asset storage location.
  • Copy the Asset Folder: Copy the entire D5 Workspace folder (or the identified asset storage folder) from its current location to the desired new location, such as an external drive or a new computer.
  • Reassign the Asset Storage Location:
    • On the new computer or after moving the folder:
      • For versions earlier than 2.11: In D5 Render, go to “Menu” > “Preferences” > “Assets Storage” and select “New Location” to point D5 Render to the newly copied D5 Workspace folder.
      • For versions 2.11 and later: In D5 Launcher, go to “Setting” > “Workspace” and select the new location where you copied the assets.
  • Restart D5 Render: Close and restart D5 Render to ensure the changes are applied and the software recognizes the new asset location.

This process ensures that D5 Render can access your local assets from their new storage path.

Hi @gneocleous

After installation, ensure that you copy your Workspace folder to your new device. Then you can reassign the workspace folder location via D5 Launcher, exactly, what @visualplus suggested.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your help. Just 1 question, do I have to create a new folder and location for my local assets or can I just place them in the default D5 folder on my new PC for local assets?

Hi @gneocleous

Either way can work, just ensure that this new Workspace folder is placed where you have Folder Full Control or Access.
