Stereographic Cubic Panoramic Rendering

I am having the same problem, It is like there is something wrong with the vertical scaling.

Hi friends,
can you tell us the VR equipment you use and the version of D5? Does it happen to all scenes? if not can you send us the scene for troubleshooting? Thanks for the feedback!

Hey Bruce, i answered via Email with the Scenes

Pauline.

Thanks a lot!

Hi Bruce,

do you have any news regarding stereoscopic images for VR? Were you able to do anything with my images???

I look forward to your feedback.
Best regards!

Hi Bruce,

I am having the same scaling issue when viewing a 360 panoramic render on a Meta Quest 2. Also need the ability to make stereoscopic renders. This is a deal breaker for our company. Please advise an expected timeline for bug fix / feature implementation. We may need to use Twinmotion for now. Thanks

Hi guys,
I have reported the problem again, I will tell you If there is feedback. Sorry for the delay.

@iankerr.27
Can you tell me your device info? Also, can you send us the model with the scaling problem? thanks a lot

Hello Everyone,

My suggestion was a band-aid solution. It only works if you look in the direction of the camera, and maybe 30 degrees to either side. A proper stereo-graphic shot would not have that issue as it would meld (stitch) a few pairs so that you don’t get cross-eyed effect at angles beyond 45 degrees from the first viewing angle.

There are software that can stitch a bunch of stereo images, but it is a LOT of work.

Indeed, it would be tremendous if this was done in D5 in a single step.

The scaling is poor because of the lens focal length. If it is off normal items don’t get smaller quick enough at distant, or get small too quickly. This has to be also a parameter to set for stereo images.

Thank you for your feedback.

I just recently exported a panorama from D5 and opened it on my meta quest and it seems like the scale is really off still . Is there any news on fixing that ? And also news on generating stereoscopic panorama images ? It would be a great next step since it would be just be rendering out another pano at a set distance . Our company really wants to present in stereoscopic VR and have it be at the right scale .

Hello,

Has there been a resolution to these issues or has the D5 team placed this on their roadmap? Like many in this thread our team would really like to use VR and stereographic panoramas.

Hello D5 render Team,
can we expect a solution? It really would be so cool to have a possibility to create stereoscopic 360 renders to finally solve the scaling issue.
At the moment it looks terrible to see the 360 renders on VR headset (Meta Quest 2).

Best regards.

It is really dissapointing to see the 360 render output completely off scale and i am feeling cheated for the money i am paying D% render brand. also am noticing many chats not replied by devs since long time. I am trying my best to be polite, but seems the devs dont deserve this treatement. U better reply and let us all know by when will this ridiculous issue be fixed or we need to look for other alternatives and that we VR customers should stop subcription and move on. :rage: :rage: :rage: :rage:

Hello @vectordesigns20 and other VR users,

Firstly, we’re very sorry about this issue.

The current panorama rendering feature in D5 only supports a single camera view, rather than a true stereoscopic panorama. As a result, it would be missing the sense of space and scale in a VR headset. However, our Product Team is aware of this issue and is actively working on developing a genuine stereoscopic panorama solution.

We will promptly inform you of any updates. Thank you for your understanding, patience, and kindness. :love_letter:

Sincerely,
D5 Team

Glad D5 staff are finally working on making it now ! I think a lot of us will love being able to use these feature to get a true VR experience. I feel like having the highest possible quality stereo renders from D5 would blow clients away . Truly would feel like we are standing in our spaces in real life

Hi Leah_Li,

I hope you understand the frustration of using several softwares to get a good output.
We were a firm completely based on Lumion, and now we have shifted to D5, for which we have no regrets and are only happy to have made the switch to D5.

But for 360 outputs, we are forced to look again for other options like twin motion, and then it becomes a new time-consuming exercise to learn new software.

Hope you all are able to fix the stereoscopic issue and also come up with 360 video options too.

Regards.

Twinmotion requires serious horsepower for path tracing. But, in what they call “real time” rendering, it is adequate and does a near perfect job on stereo panoramas. If D5 could match that capability, I’d be back in a heartbeat, and many will join. VR is becoming an essential business tool for study, and more importantly, for client presentations. They expect it as routine part from any professional outfit.

Blender also does a very good job, actually excellent job with their stereo panos. They have a lot of controls, including IPD or the distance between the eyes, or cameras. In fact, they rotate the two cameras so that their focal points coincide if the target is not at infinity.

It is hard not to see such a good set of features, practically unmatched, not be practical for lack of this small and seemingly simple feature. It is very basic geometry to project onto a sphere and then from that onto a flat view-plane. Two parameters, presented to users as “focal length” and “Inter-pupillary distance” will cover 99% of the issues of scaling.

Dear D5 Render Support and Development Team,

We are writing to you to express our growing concern regarding the lack of a stereoscopic cubic panoramic rendering feature in D5 Render.

We have been following the thread in your forum titled “Stereographic Cubic Panoramic Rendering” with great interest since it was started in February 2023. More than two years have passed since this need was raised by the community, and for our team, this feature is crucial.

Our company relies on presenting projects using virtual reality headsets, and the ability to generate high-quality stereoscopic renders is essential to deliver an immersive and professional experience to our clients. The absence of this feature in D5 Render is forcing us to consider other software alternatives, even though we prefer the quality and workflow that your render engine offers for other formats.

We would like to request a clear answer as to whether you plan to implement this functionality. If so, could you provide us with an estimated timeline for its release? A clear roadmap on this subject would greatly help us in our project planning and in our decision to continue using D5 Render as our primary tool.

Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

Sincerely, ilde

Just jumping on this thread to say I am 100% agree.

Stereo renders for VR are a huge part of our client work, and it’s a real headache to have to use other software just for this one feature. We absolutely love D5 for everything else, and this is the one thing we’re desperately missing.

Any chance of an update on this? a “yes, it’s on the list” would be amazing to hear.

Cheers

I agree, for my workflow it would be very useful to have this option, as well as the tour for pro users and not just for teams.
