Slow loading time and laggy viewport. Now upgrading my PC. Please help!

Hello everybody!
I use D5 for interior rendering. My current PC has following hardware:

AMD Ryzen 5 3600XT (no overclock)
Gigabyte B550 Gaming X V2
Zotac 3080 Trinity OC 10GB VRAM
750W Power supply
3x16GB 3200Mhz DDR4 on XMP
WD Blue™ SN550 Gen3 NVMe SSD - 500GB
Allocated 30GB Virtual Memory on Windows 11

I am experiencing slow loading times with D5 source files and a laggy viewport on medium to heavy files. At times, file does not load for 10 minutes (or more) straight. I read here that CPU plays an important role in loading assets and overall viewport experience.

I think my current processor is too slow for D5 Render. I use Sketchup for modelling. Based on my understanding, my GPU is relatively good, though may not be top of the line. I am planning to upgrade my processor to 14600k. My budget for processor alone is USD 300. I looked at AMD processors too but they are too far behind on multi-core performance. Intel seems to have resolved the chip issue as well (is what I read online) so that should not be concern either.

Please help me with following questions:

  1. Is it my GPU or CPU causing the lag and slowness?
  2. If it is CPU, is 14600k a good option? I do not wish to go beyond $300 for the CPU alone. I have separate budget for motherboard and other components. Do you have any better recommendation in the same/similar price bracket?
  3. Can D5 utilize e cores on intel processors? I chose intel over amd for better multicore performance (given that it has e cores along with p cores) and equally good single core performance.
  4. Should I go with DDR4 or DDR5 RAM? I already have 3 to 4 16GB DDR4 3200mhz RAM sticks. I would go for DDR5 only if there is a significant performance difference.

Your advice will be extremely valuable. Thanks for your time and help.
Regards.

Hi there. Would it be possible to send your System Info (although you have typed your specs in the description) so we may be able to deduce and somehow D5 Render does detect if your specs are in the “Minimum Requirement” or the “Recommended” category?

  1. It tends to differ from case to case, but CPU and GPU have a huge role in intensive rendering since D5 is based on Unreal Engine and NVIDIA RTX technology. It could also be the heaviness of the file that is causing the lag/slowness perhaps a lot of heavy assets were incorporated into the file. Overall, upgrading your hardware is a good choice since it is directly proportional to a higher performance but if issues persist despite the upgrade please don’t hesitate to reach out in our platforms.

  2. Currently, Devices with Intel Core i9-13900K/KF/KS and i9-14900K/KF/KS processors running D5 and other DX12 software may experience flashbacks, crashes, 99% loading freeze, and pop-up messages indicating “Some DLL files in the system are missing” or “Program startup failed”. And last September, Intel has released a new microcode patches**(0x129)** to its OEM/ODM partners. Users can go to the motherboard’s official website to update the BIOS version. However, machines that are already seeing frequent crashes due to this problem likely have experienced irreversible physical damage and might require replacement.

  3. I think going for intel processors or Ryzen differs from your preference. I am running a Ryzen 9 and I don’t seem to have any problem with running D5 Render and other GPU Intensive Game Application. It’s best to check some blogs and reviews regarding their difference to better suite your preference

  4. Ofcourse, the faster the better but it is important to take note that RAM Speed over 4000 Mhz may cause crashes and such but still differs from user to user since there were some who reported that their default RAM Speed is higher than 4000 Mhz but D5 is functioning well. D5 crashes every 2 min

Note:

Hope this helps. Thank you.
