Hello,
Hello, I’m looking to create a small robot animation.
I need to have the sketchup components in D5, but in the right place.
I’ve placed the axes of my components correctly so that the pivot is correct in D5. The “sync pivot” option works if I export my components separately from skp, but I’m trying to place these components automatically in D5 render and synchronize their coordinates, as in skp. but I can’t.
Should I export each component separately in skp format or in D5 frormat?

Hi there,
If your goal is to create a small robot animation then, I think it would be best to import the parts via .d5a export and enable “Keep Group Structure Info”. I also suggest using the .d5a format since .d5a files contain model data that has been processed and optimized specifically for D5 Render, often resulting in better performance and smoother workflow.

Thanks, but
I have 5 componants, each pivot setings inside the component is right in sketchup, but when you export as d5a file, you loose pivot right settings, even with a “sync pivot” clici in d5. I think the only way would be to create a Skp file for each part where the géometry would not be grouped, but where skp model axes would be in the right place for a “sync pivot” in D 5. But it it very time consuming. May be I will try
Hi there,
You can’t select Sync Pivot if your skp file is converted to d5a? Can you send me a screenshot? I tried it on my end, it seems that the “Sync Pivot” feature is still accessible even with this workflow. Also, individually selecting the objects inside the group allows me to enable “Sync Pivot”.
hello,
in this video I show you my sketchup file and what I get in D5

Hi @julienfischel
Thank you so much for providing us with this video. I’m not entirely sure if this is how the sync pivot should be behaving normally. Would it be possible for you to send us the SKP file so we can test it on our end and find out if this is how the sync pivot feature should be behaving? You may send it to support@d5techs.com and have it titled “Clov-Forum SKP Synchronize Coordinates of Separate Elements”
Thank you.
Hi @julienfischel
Thanks for sending your files. We were able to test it and did it this way:
- Import them first as a whole so you can record their XYZ numbers or location.
- Reset the Coordinates on each of their parts in SKP and ensure that the surface where you want to put the pivot is placed correctly, then proceed to directly import them to D5 Render.
- After successfully importing them in D5, proceed to click “Sync Pivot”.
- After you have imported all of the parts, you can modify their location by changing their XYZ numbers based on the imported .d5a model.

thank you very much, I’m testing it this morning
I dont understand how do you get the " reset axes" inside the component? It should be “réinitialiser les axes” in french
I’ve realized my mistake because I’m editing a component whose axes have not been modified. It works fine on the other components
it’s too much for me: I really need to see the result with a full video, but the best thing would be for D5 to support local pivot for sketchup groups and components.
I mean, be able to synchronise pivots inside groups and components
Hi there,
Indeed the process is longer and might be confusing at times especially when you are working with a lot of parts. Nevertheless, I have conveyed your suggestion to my team and hopefully will support it in subsequent releases. Thank you for your understanding.
