Simple Planar Mesh Normal Display Issue

I made a simple mesh in Rhino and added a normal texture for water material.

It looks all wrong in D5.

With normal.

Without normal.

Normal I used.

hi, dont apply normal or noise to planer which is used as water surface. that can cause water surface to act wrong. let the surface simple plane.

But I want the water to have waves

yes u can control wave scale / speed and depth in d5 water material.

Hi the file does not work.

Also I can see you are using a normal map, when you just told me not to use a normal.

The problem persists even with the default water material.

When I have a mesh in Rhino it does not work ok in D5.

You can see how, with same material. The nurbs surface displays fine inside D5 while the mesh does not.

This is a bug.

HelloWould you mind sending your simple mesh to us? We will check.
BTW, please tell me which version of rhino and the sync plugin did you use for the panar?

Hi,

Rhino version: Rhino 8 SR9 2024-6-25 (Rhino 8, 8.9.24177.13001,

D5 Sync for Rhino 0.12.0.0028 (Jan 4 2024 11:06:29)

Note that the same happens with a manual Rhino export to FBX and import into D5.

Seems like this discourse does not let me upload Rhino files nor FBXs.

Hello! We have checked your issue. Currently, applying textures to mesh surfaces in Rhino results in abnormal displays. You can use the “ToSubD” command in Rhino to convert mesh surfaces to SubD before synchronizing.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. NURBS surfaces work fine too.

Still, it is pretty strange that a Rendering engine can’t deal with a simply planar mesh. Hope it is fixed soon. Thanks!
