Saving a models materials for use in other D5 renders

Hi
I’ve created a desk model in skecthup and applied materials to it in D5. How can I save the model so it keeps the D5 materials? The best I can do is copy and paste it but having to go between D5 windows means its not a very smooth process. I’m guessing I can save it and use the import tool, but I can’t see how to select and save it. Thank you

Hello again.
When you import the object into D5 with the icon at the top left and place the object in the D5 window, select it, the properties of the object you inserted appear. Look at the top of the properties dropdown, there is an icon that lets you save it in the local library, where you can put folders for each individual object by its category. This gives you the way that every time you open a project you will have your own material objects and particles, i.e. you create your own personal library.

Hi
I wonder if I’m putting importing the object from sketchup into D5 incorrectly. I drew a very basic table for a test within the room model I am already working on. The table is made from trectangular boxes, one larger one for the table top on the smaller one for the base. I grouped each box and then grouped them together after giving the top and base separate a named colours. I updated the sketchup and the table is now in the D5 scene I created. I added a different material to each rectangular box. But I can’t select both rectangular boxes to save in the local library. I can save each material into the local library, but I cant select the whole (or any part of the model).

Okay, after typing that out I see I have to create the model in its own sketchup window and save it. I’ve now imported the model and can save it in the local library. Thanks so much for the help.

The program is designed only for rendering, it is not a graphics program, sometimes you get confused. I am also self-taught, but I have been doing this for many years, moving from one program to another, I did the things to do on my own, insisting on the program in question, until I got what I wanted. Then social media came out on the internet and this helped a lot, in step with technology, now there is artificial intelligence, I tried this out of curiosity, it can make it easier for you to see your project, but it will never be the project you have in mind, with your evolutions.
Sorry for my rant, but I love this profession with passion, like many of our colleagues, and I can see it in the Forum gallery. :slightly_smiling_face: :slightly_smiling_face: :slightly_smiling_face:

Yeah, I love the creativity of 3D design. I also make furniture and its great to see what I make on the screen before I make it for real. I’ve been using Thea for my renders so the work flows are slightly different. The tutorials and community on D5 are great so the learning curve has been quick; and what a great bit of software. Looking forward to trying some animations and VR.
Agree with you regarding AI. I’m going to try it as a way to iterate concepts and ideas but there is no way is can replicate the precision of my work and how it is installed so it won’t get a very big place in my workflow. thanks again
