Reflections in oddly specific band of elevation

Hi,

I am having an issue with a very specific band of reflection in a scene that affects all objects at the same elevation. It appears to be some sort of “zone” in the scene the extends to infinity, about 10m tall, about 30m above the ground plane. If I move the objects up or down, the affected area stays at the same height in the scene (so lowering the objects below that zone eliminates the effect). Any ideas? I have seen some odd consequences to using the scatter tool, totally unrelated to the affected area (turning random materials black), yet somehow causes the issue. It’s like some sort of hyper-local patch of corrupt environment that only projects at a specific elevation zone and from a single direction.

-I cannot share this file, please don’t start by asking for it before troubleshooting.
-I have tried swapping materials. No matter the material, let alone it’s specular settings, it remains in the same location.
-I have tried reloading and replacing the assets.
-I have tried Geosky, Custom and HDRI. The reflection zone remains.
-I have tried turning super resolution and FPS Booster on and off, in each combination. No effect.

thanks in advance!

Hi @mcdermoa

Thank you for the screenshots and the detailed description. We appreciate you taking the time to test several things on your end.

Based on what you’ve shared, this behavior does not appear to be normal. Could you please try disabling or isolating the scattered objects, then render again to see if the issue persists?

We’d also like to clarify a few points to better understand the scope of the issue:

  • Does the horizontal band only appear from this specific camera angle, or do other views/cameras show the same effect as well?
  • When viewing the object from the opposite/back side, does it appear normal, or is the band still visible?
  • Could you please try recreating a simple test scene in a new file (for example, importing only one of the affected objects) and check whether the same horizontal band appears there?

This will help us determine whether the issue is file-specific or related to a more general rendering behavior. Thank you for your cooperation.

I think I discovered the culprit. There was an imported object, with visibility turned off, yet it was still showing up as a reflection on the objects you see in the clipped images I sent over. Once that object was made visible and deleted, it went away. Not sure why a hidden object would still show up in reflections, but for now the issue is fixed.

Got it. Thank you for the update. Please let us know if you encounter anything else.
