RECT Light shadow sharpness control

Hello!

I am rendering a bathroom part of a bigger home. The bathroom does not get direct sunlight unfortunately, and I need to use a rect light to show some light from the window. I usually don’t do this as most of my scenes have sunlight, but for some reason I thought RECT light had the option to choose the radius, and softens shadows. Unfortunately It doesn’t, and now my render has an unnatural shadow line. I don’t want to use point light, as it will illuminate the garden scenery. Is there a way to add light shape radius to RECT Lights? I think I remember having the option in older D5 versions.**

Hi @nicolaslvigier

Correct me if I’m wrong but, this is the placement of your Rec Light? Perhaps similar?

  • Try using an emissive material. Insert a Basic Plane asset > Resize > Enable Emissive option

Hi Clov,

The problem with the plane light is that I cannot control how far the light reaches, and it shows as light source, and also cannot hide relections of it, making it not ideal.

Hi @nicolaslvigier

Try to lessen the intensity and attenuation radius?
