I’m currently using D5 with an Edu license, and I had a question about how “device binding” works when the Edu license expires.
At the moment, my Edu account seems to be bound to a different device. I was wondering:
When an Edu license expires, is the device binding automatically released, or does it remain bound to the last device?
After the Edu period ends, what is the proper way to switch or re-bind the license to a new device?
Is there any recommended workflow (log out beforehand, wait for expiration, etc.) to avoid device issues?
I’m not trying to request a manual unbind right now—just hoping to understand how the system is designed to work after the Edu license period ends.
If anyone has experience with this or knows the official behavior, I’d really appreciate the clarification.
Thank you!
Thank you for your question — happy to clarify how device binding works for the EDU license.
After the EDU license expires, your account will automatically revert to the Community version. At that point, the previous EDU device binding is no longer active.
You may then reapply for a new EDU license from any device. Once approved, the EDU license will again be bound to the device used during the application/login, and as a fixed-seat license, it will remain bound to that device for the entire new license period.
There is no special workflow required. Simply wait for the current EDU license to fully expire, log in on the device you intend to use going forward, and reapply for the EDU license from that device. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
