Dear D5 Team,
I am considering upgrading my GPU and, as you know, there are many specifications to evaluate for an RTX card, such as VRAM, bus width, clock speed, fillrate, bandwidth, etc.
My main focus is not on how quickly a final image can be rendered, as benchmark tests show only a small difference (about 20 seconds) between the RTX 4090 and RTX 4060.
However, what will save me significant time is the smoothness and interactivity during the detailed preview mode (not the smooth mode, which doesn’t allow for accurate material preview/setup). The lag in preview mode for a large scene has been a major time sink.
My question is, among all the GPU specs, which ones should I focus on to ensure a smooth preview experience in D5 when handling large scenes?
- I assume that, as long as VRAM is sufficient, additional VRAM won’t further improve smoothness.
- If VRAM is not the key factor, should I be looking at bus width, core clock speed, memory clock speed, fill rate, or other specs? What should I prioritize?
As you know, some newer card has smaller buswidth, such as RTX3060Ti has 256 while RTX4070 has only 192. If buswidth defines smoothness, I don’t want to spend more money but get less smooth experience, even though render time is faster.
Any insights you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your assistance!
Hi there. Generally, the more powerful the GPU, the better, especially since D5 Render is a GPU-based software. However, it is also essential to note that the preview screen fps can be improved by optimizing models in your scene. You may want to hide assets (especially vegetation, scatter, etc.) if these models are not seen or needed in a specific view.
You may want to check the user’s self-test data regarding how your desired GPU works with the current D5 Version. This also provides information on the FPS value that these users have when rendering their files: https://benchmark.d5render.com/result
Hope this helps, thank you.
Thanks for your answer, but basically you did not answer any of my question lol.
He is telling you that If you want a smooth preview experience you should really focus on optimizing the scene, regardless the graphic card specs.
Im actually working with RTX 4060 16GB, and if sometimes my scene is lagging is because I fucked up scattering some model and is overloading the scene.
So, go for the best RTX 40 series performance/ratio that you like. Or even wait for the 50 series.
I can’t tell you more, sorry.
Indeed, a larger GPU can undoubtedly boost your device’s overall performance. However, it does not guarantee a smoother experience, especially if you’re working with large and heavy files. Optimizing scenes is also crucial to ensure smooth performance.
Rest assured, we are continuously working to optimize and enhance D5’s performance to provide you with a better experience in future releases. Thank you for your understanding.
