Modify Local materials

Hello everyone, once some materials are saved in LOCAL, is it possible to modify them? Specifically, I am doing the mapping of a kitchen, so I created 6 wood textures for the cabinets and other elements, each with different grain patterns, and saved them in Local. Now I have finished the mapping phase of the kitchen, but I would like to slightly modify the brightness of the textures to make them darker or change its saturation a bit. Is there a way to avoid having to do this manually on each element avoiding the post-production process.? Doing it manually would be a very long and imprecise process, as there are dozens of elements in the scene that need to be modified. Thanks for the help.

Hi @enricomescoli

For now, the only method to edit the materials that you have saved locally is to modify them individually in D5 Render and re-add them to the local library, which will create another material, so you may need to delete the previous version of the material before to avoid confusion.

Hi @clovisbolasco14
thank you for your reply. I hope this will be possible, as it’s a situation that can occur frequently.

Hi @enricomescoli

We appreciate your insights. Can you perhaps explain further this requirement or suggestion you have in mind? Perhaps attaching an example image to support it would be beneficial. Looking forward, thank you.

Hi, I’m currently unable to insert images because these parameters are not yet available. The need—and suggestion—is precisely to develop them. To explain better, I’ll go back to the example from the initial request. Often, we find ourselves needing to map many elements in a scene. In the kitchen example, I have around 10 materials with 10 different textures, each with unique veining to avoid repetition.

In this case, I completed the full mapping, but once the project was finished, I needed to slightly adjust some texture parameters such as brightness and saturation levels. These are parameters that, within D5, I can currently only control by selecting one element at a time and modifying them individually. However, this process is very time-consuming. I have to repeat the same adjustments for each single object in the scene, selecting them one by one and modifying the same parameters over and over to make sure all elements are updated consistently.

What I believe would be very useful to develop is the ability to apply these modifications directly to materials imported into LOCAL. Once the edit is made, the entire scene would update automatically, without the need to manually edit each object.

To simplify, it’s the equivalent of what I do in Cinema 4D when I use other render engines: I select the materials I want to modify, apply a filter or layer, change the parameters, and the changes are applied in real time to the scene elements.

Another very useful feature would be, again within LOCAL, the ability to replace an existing texture within an already created material. This way, a new version of the scene with completely different materials could be generated automatically in just a few clicks.

I hope I’ve explained myself clearly and that this feedback can be useful. If anything is unclear, I’m happy to elaborate. I used a kitchen as an example, but this could apply to any scene with many materials and elements to manage.

Thanks for your collaboration,
Enrico

Below is a schematic idea

Hi @enricomescoli

We truly appreciate the detailed information regarding this feature request. I have forwarded the full context and the schematic idea (image) that you have shared with us to our Team. We cannot guarantee that this feature will be included in the next update but rest assured that it will be considered and may be implemented in the next version updates.

Thank you so much.

Hi @clovisbolasco14 , great news, that would be fantastic! Thank you so much!
