Materials and video

Hey everyone,

I am doing my first steps with D5, so unfortunately I am going to come back to you with a lot of questions!

  1. Materials

My first question is about materials: I am a 3ds max user, creating my models with corona material. Passing the model from 3ds max to D5, I get the feeling that it loses some of the details of the corona material. Is it normal, or am I doing sth wrong? Should I have another approach in the futute? What should I do in order to get a more realistic, result, as I get in 3ds max?

  1. Video

Now comes the second part of my question, how could I get more realistic results with my videos? Unfortunately my video sample is too heavy, therefore I am attaching a screenshot from my mp4 video. So, as you can see in the image, again the materials do not look that great, as in 3ds max. There is also a lot of noise and lack of smoothness in the lines. How could it be solved? I would like to note here that I am not a pro user. I assume my only options is mp4 , 4k images? Is there another way to get more control with my images/ videos and maybe eligible to export not only mp4 files?

Notes:
I have a processor AMD Ryzen 9 5950X, 32 GB RAM, updated drivers and a Graphoc Card NVIDIA GEForce RTX 3070 Tit.

I am looking forward to your answers and thanks a lot!

Hi there,
Which corona version are you using? Could you please upload a comparison of the corona materials in 3ds Max and D5? So that we can confirm the details.

I think the reason the scene in the screenshot didn’t turn out as you expected is probably because you didn’t make adjustments to the environment and materials in D5. It is recommended that you turn off auto exposure in D5 (in the post panel) and manually adjust the exposure parameters (usually around 0.3) and use the HDRI sky or sun to illuminate the scene, or add some artificial light to fill in the light if you feel it is not bright enough, as this will give the scene an overall natural look.

If the material looks noisy and lacks smoothness, then you may need to reduce the roughness and highlight parameters of the material. You can start by looking at the tutorial on PBR material, browse through the D5 Forum Scene Express and download the best examples to learn and D5.
