Location of imports from Rhino not the same

Hi all,

I’ve just started using D5 Render after using Lumion for far too long, expect to me with various queries

So I’ve started a project and then imported a 3DM file from Rhino, then made the location x-0 Y-0 z-0 - however now I’m trying out a workflow to replace assets, basically importing from Rhino a separate file with placeholder meshes and then to replace those placeholders with D5 render trees - however the file imports in a different location, even when I zero out the location - any ideas what I may of done wrong?
Thanks,

Martin

Hi @mc1

Welcome to D5 Render!

I tried your workflow, but I was not able to replicate the issue. Basically, I directly imported these two files, and they are both evident on the same X and Y values.

  • Can you perhaps attach a video recording of the issue that you are currently experiencing?
  • Additionally, have you tried using the Livesync Plug-in for the main model, then direct import for the proxy models? (Just to test if this method works on your end)

Looking forward to your reply

So the issue is that D5 Render imports using a pivot/location point that’s in the centre of the imported model - so zeroing out the location on multiple imports just makes the location point the same, it doesn’t use the original coordinates from Rhino - unlike Lumion for example.
I don’t like to use Livesync as my work flow often involves bringing in multiple files, I don’t think the Livesync workflow works well for me.
@Clov with your imports, is the pivot/location point not in the centre of both objects? - I don’t understand how you have brought them in at the correct relative position

So I just found this ‘sync coordinates’ which worked perfectly - however, if there is a way that it can be dealt with when importing I’d be interested to know

Hi @mc1

I apologize, but I did change the values here; directly importing will always result in how it was placed on D5. The “Sync Coordinates” addresses this issue when you are using the direct-import workflow.

Personally, I usually prefer using the Live-sync Plug-in just to ensure that the X, Y, Z values are the same as the ones I have in my 3d Modelling software.
