When creating assets external, is there any reason not to insert them into a D5 scene as a link (as opposed to importing them)? Is there any performance downside?
Thanks,
PS, this forum could really use a topic along the lines of general discussion. I could not find an appropriate place to post this type of question.
Hi @jay2, there are two main ways to add external models to a D5 scene; using the D5 Converter (via LiveSync or the Sync plugin), or by importing the model directly in supported formats such as .d5a, .skp, .3dm, and others.
We also have a general chat section on our Discord server, where you can connect with other users to discuss D5-related topics. For any issues, you can get help either in this forum or in the technical support section of the Discord server.
You can join the server through the link: D5 Render
Thanks, Anthony. That helps. However, I do have the same question - is there any downside to linking in the asset (if it is .skp , for example) so I can update it later?
All the import options support updating/reloading the model. We recommend saving the files locally and only uploading to a cloud drive after editing, as opening the file directly from a cloud/network path may lead to loss of materials during reload.
