Laptop configuration/model for video rendering

Currently I work with D5 on my desktop, but I’ve been thinking of buying a laptop for mobility.

Also I’ve been struggling to render videos on my 2021 desktop, I need an upgraded machine that won’t take all night to render 10s videos…

I’m looking for the better bang for my buck so to speak, I can’t spend all my savings, but I need to buy something that will be useful for many years…

Has anyone bought a laptop recently that is doing well with video renderings? What brand and model?

Hi @brunaghot2

Can you share your current device’s system information? So we can have an idea on what you currently have.

  • I have been using my ROG Zephyrus G15 with an RTX 3070 (8GB VRAM) and 40GB RAM (upgraded) for over 4-5 years with D5 Render. The performance has been good, and I’ve managed to complete a lot of renders. However, I do face limitations due to the 8GB of VRAM, which is relatively low for rendering complex scenes.

  • I am currently considering upgrading to a Lenovo Legion laptop equipped with an RTX 5070 and 12GB of VRAM. I think the price is reasonable, especially since laptops are generally more expensive than building a desktop PC, mainly due to their portability. If this option doesn’t appeal to you and you would prefer a laptop over a PC, I recommend considering the RTX 5060 or 5070 with 8GB of VRAM.

Note: You’re free to do more research on the suggested device brand and model, I’m just stating my experience with my device while using D5 Render. I’m sure some forum users will be able to suggests better. So take this advice with a grain of salt  :face_with_peeking_eye:

Your PC is definitelly better than mine (Dell Inspiron). Is it rendering videos well?

I was just looking at an Alienware Aurora. And I saw that all of the VRAMS available are 8GB, even for the RTX 5070…

The Legion 7 Pro is one that I’m considering too, I just wonder how durable and easy to repair it is…

Hi @brunaghot2

My device is doing fine, but I tend to avoid rendering videos that exceed 4K resolution. Also, I’m carefully optimizing and organizing my assets just to avoid a crash.
