Installing and using in a Hyper-V VM?

Hi,
I’m using Revit 2026 in a Windows11Pro Hyper-V virtual machine with GPU passthrough enabled (RTX3080 10Gb).
D5 seemed to install fine (tried twice), however, when creating a new empty project it’s initializing forever and never loads the actual UI.
For comparison, Blender, other rendering tools and even games work fine.

I found only 1 other thread (Nov.25) about this specific issue but it didn’t get resolved.
Is there anything I need to configure or install in the VM specifically for D5?
Any clues/hints/tips?

Thanks.

I found a workaround.
While the D5 renderer wouldn’t work from within the VM (VMs are managed by my university), the D5 plugin does and I use it to export a .d5a file which I then copy to my cloud drive (it’s the only way to get files in and out of the VM). I download the file to my home computer, where D5 runs fine, and do the rendering there.
It’s not ideal but it works. I can now start evaluating D5 and if I like the results I’ll consider getting a subscription for myself.

Hi @stefaan.vanden

Thank you for the update, and we appreciate you sharing the workaround you found.

If you encounter any issues while transferring or opening the .d5a file on your home computer, please let us know, and we’ll be happy to assist.
