I don't get it

I’m using D5 with Rhino and it:

  1. Won’t bring in layers - so 1 material is on everything in the scene.
  2. The rendering looks TERRIBLE (like, what?)

I MUST be doing something wrong. I have Twinmotion and it looks AMAZING. I also use Vray 6 - which works great!! I have an RTX 3090 and Rhino 8. I would NEVER be able to get the results I see online with this app. Not in 1000 years of trying. Can someone tell me what’s happening? I mean, I don’t think this is false advertising…but LOL - no way no how do does it look even anywhere near like it does on all the advertising I see. I installed this…got the 5 day Pro version to try out and it seems to be the worst rendering app I’ve ever seen… like…ever.

Hello @chris7,

sorry for your bad experience. Model files will be defaulted as a whole (without layers and hidden parts) when imported into D5. You need to differentiate the materials in the modelling software at first and can reapply textures to them respectively after importing. If you want to edit different parts singly, you can divide them into different model files and import them to D5 separately.

You can definitely achieve extremely high quality renders with D5. You just mainly have to learn the right ways to do things . I prefer HDRI over the default geo/sky settings . Also you have to make sure you turn off autoexposure . For interior lighting, it always helps putting rectangle lights outside of windows to boost the interior natural lighting in your scene .
