I can't reset a material to it's original

Hi, I am a new D5 user. Sofar, the journey has been reasonably smooth and I am generally pleased with the results.

I am using D5 together with Sketchup. The one issue that I have not been able to resolve yet, is the resetting of a material:

I would like to be able to reset a material to its original state when it a model was first imported. I thought the reset button would do just that, but it only resets changes that were done recently and while working on the same tab in the settings panel. Also, it does not seem to be able to reset after switching material defaults (such as cloth, grass, etc.)

Is it not possible to reset materials inside D5?

Thanks for any help!

Hi babsgosgens,

Yeah, you are right, we also find this function is not good enough, now you have to change the material ID in the modeling software then reset or replace from local to recover the original material. We will improve that function, sorry for the inconvenience now.

The current logic for synchronising materials via direct read [update model] is that:

  1. Once imported, all materials are no longer modified by the material parameters in the modelling software.
  2. Only the material with the new material name will be re-synced as a new material, i.e. the update model will only recognise the new material name.

The most efficient way to revert to a material in the modelling software is to rename your material in the modelling software and then update/re-sync the model.
