How best to use sketchup proxy assets

Hello. I work with a lot of garden designers who use simple proxy coloured cones as vegetation components to indicate where everything needs to be planted/shown on the visualisations. Is there going to be a way to work with such items within D5 in the future? Currently I have to replace each of them individually, and on schemes with thousands of plants that can get a bit tedious.

Hi @3DG

I think D5Lite has integrated proxy assets that are shown as blank white models in SKP, but it is still in beta and needs further development.

  • For the workaround, you can try adding simple models in SKP > Import them to D5 separately > Sync Pivot to match the position. I’m not sure if this is the most feasible way currently, but so far this has been used by other users for now.

Would I have to import every one of a particular component in one go? Would that then still recognise each as an individual asset so that I could replace them all at the same time? Then I’d have to do that for each plant variety - for information, my current project has almost 300 plant varieties and hundreds of instances of each.

Hi @3DG

Oh, with that sheer number, I don’t think the workaround is feasible. :disappointed_relieved:

You can understand why I am really hoping to be able to work with sketchup proxy models very soon
