Help with Realistic Water Reflection Effect Under Glass

Hi everyone,

I’m working on a project in D5 Render, and I’m trying to create a realistic water effect where you can see reflections and ripples under a glass surface, similar to the effect in the attached image. I’d like to achieve a look where the water appears reflective and refractive, with the light interacting realistically beneath the glass.

I’ve tried experimenting with water and glass materials, but I’m having trouble getting the reflections and ripple effect to look as realistic as I’d like. If anyone has tips on:

  1. Settings for water and glass materials to enhance transparency, reflection, and refraction.
  2. Techniques to adjust lighting for better reflections and visible water ripples.
  3. Using any reflection planes or caustics (if D5 supports it) to add depth and realism.

I’d really appreciate any advice or specific settings that could help me achieve this effect. Thank you!

Hi, I tried to replicate the effect that you were going for. You can achieve this by enabling “Caustics” in the glass and water materials.

  • I also noticed the “Volumetric Light” or “God Rays” in the reference image. You can add this asset through the Asset Library > Particle > Volumetric Lighting and ensure that “Fog” and “Volume Light” is enabled in the environment parameters tab

  • This is what it looks like on the exterior side; I inserted a spotlight and pointed it to the surface where I wanted the caustics to be visible. Also ensure that caustic is turned on in the light source.

For more information regarding caustics in swimming pools to produce a “Glistening” effect, you may check this video from our official YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/0YY3vqoIFv4?si=vG4Fx99TtnDmvZui&t=181

Hope this help, thank you.

Thank you soooo muchhh
