HDRI Blurry

I know there are a couple of posts about blurry HDRI’s in D5 but they’re about 3 years old.

So I’m wondering if there’s been any progress in improving them. I’m testing out some workflows where I’ve created a HDRI 360 image. I’ve then upscaled this using AI so it’s cleaner. However, when I export, it’s blurry.

Anyone have any ideas? I’ve tested it from 2k-8k with the same results. I’m going to have to photoshop things into the backdrop, but it would be great to be able to set it up and not have to worry in D5.

Hi @henry1

High-definition HDRI takes up more resources when previewing, so the HDRI is compressed to 2k by the D5 when previewing to ensure that accurate lighting is provided.

HDRI being blurry should only be evident in the preview screen, after rendering it should display normally.

Heya

That’s the problem the quality doesn’t seem to improve, the image I’ve attached is the render test and the 360 used.

So I did a little test this morning, I created a Sphere and then applied the HDRI image to this. It seems that doing this actaully improved the quality. I will have to set up two renders, and then mask this through the windows, but the quality is a bit better. It’s still not amazing. Would love to hear any further thoughts.

Hi @henry1

Can you share the HDRI File? You may generate a link containing the zipped HDRI file so I can test it on my end. Thank you.

Hey, here is link, it’s not super high res, but even so it’s odd that I can get a better result mapping it to my own sphere.

Thanks

Hi @henry1

Thanks.

Where was the sphere created? Is it from D5, the basic shape - sphere? And what was its size?

Hey, in the morning I will send you the D5 files if easier, I have the hdri in for lighting and then the basic sphere with texture for reference which I then photoshop. I have some projects coming up where I need the hdri to be better as they are having 360, this is why I was doing the testing.
